The only interesting thing I've done with the green screen is turn down the max volume that the sound system will be at when you start the car. Say you had it playing loud when you turned it off last night, it won't blast you out the next morning.

ok i figured out how to monitor the battery:
extended car device, then car options or something set to 5, il play with that ..

edit : fail ... apparently MMI3G on cars with HDD and Nav this function is not possible. (Battery Monitor)

i did find this very useful thread though for those interested.

to be honest the display i look at more than any other is actually the clock , i know weird right, as that is how my life runs, but its the tiniest display at the bottom centre of the MMI , if i could figure out a way to display that better i would be happy, especially since i need glasses to read it these days.

Can't you pull up the clock in the center display?

oh Jesus that's going to be embarrassing .... ( backs out of the door )

oh yeah now i remember the issue , if im playing music and scrolling or have anything else on that screen the time goes away, so rather than scrolling through trying to bring the time up i just look at the tiny one on the MMI screen. if i could make that one bigger or bolder that would be just peachy.

For anyone interested I did get the inside backgrounds light working with a combination of the green screen and VCDS. Not very bright though , oh well.
I think the battery thing is really cool , unfortunately has me stumped and everything i have read says MMI 3G ( hope i'm saying that right ) and nav post facelift it simply wont work. If anyone does have it working please post as id be interested in how you did it.

I was curious about the battery meter myself. Are you trying on your B8.5? Supposedly it doesn't work on the B8.5 platforms.

    2009 = 2G
    2010-2012 = 3G, adding the joystick
    2013-2016 = 3G+, revising the buttons

I turned it on, but it says what it's always said 100%. It's not particularly useful. An analog 9V-15V gauge connected across pin 1 or 3 (either red wire) of the J329 term 15 relay behind the headlamp switch and the ground post at the base of the a-pillar would be far more informative.

do you happen to know if all b 8.5s have HDD Nav ? this is what i read regarding the batt.

Enable Battery meter *does not appear to work on facelift cars with MMI 3G+ HDD Navigation*

im sure the guy i was watching had an 8.5 with bat. monitor. I agree it is probably limited in functionality , but now i just gotta know lol.

okay i found the vid, he has a facelift car and definitely has the battery monitor, you can see it on his MMI ( he says his 8,5 is a mmi 2g which would make sense since he got it enabled. )

What color is your screen font? The screen for older models 3G High/Low/Basic being orange seems like it works. But the B8.5 with white font does not. I could be wrong.

His B8.5 is certainly not MMI 2G. MMI 2G in the B8 platform died with the production rollover from MY09 to MY10 (May 25, 2009).
MMI 2G had two non-navigation versions (Basic and Basic Plus) and two navigation versions (Basic Navigation and High).
Basic Nav uses a CD and didn't have map display; just a monochrome FID.
High, the only form of MMI 2G we got on any US B8, is the version we all know. DVD drive and color FID.

So we come to MMI 3G, which also had two non-navigation and two navigation versions: MMI Radio, MMI Radio plus, MMI Navigation, and MMI Navigation plus.
MMI Navigation uses a DVD or SD card repository to provide the same style navigation presentation as MMI 2G High, and has the standard control dial.
MMI Navigation plus uses a hard drive and provides the newer style 3D navigation display, and has the joystick control dial and a higher res screen that old 2G High.
US B8.0 MMI 3G, if it had navigation, always had MMI Navigation plus. HD radio was added in MY11.

With the B8.5 refresh, MMI 3G+, which had existed in the D4 and C7 filtered down to the B8. This added the "connect" stuff using a SIM card.
It also integrated Bluetooth audio streaming, but only in the MMI Navigation plus version.
There was still the non-HDD version MMI Navigation version.

Starting MY14, AoA started offering a "MMI Navigation without connect" in the low end Premium trim.
I don't know if this means it's the non-HDD version "MMI Navigation", or it's the MMI Navigation plus just without the SIM card.
Would need to know the PR code on the car to tell.
8DP is the MMI Navigation with the 6.5" mid res screen, and no HDD or joystick.
8DY is the US MMI Navigation plus with the 7" high res screen, HDD, and joystick.

You can always know from the car-setup-software version info:
    BNav - MMI 3G Navigation
HNav - MMI 3G Navigation plus
HN+ - MMI 3G+ Navigation plus with connect

In the US, the non-navigation versions of MMI 3G were not offered. If you're looking at a RoW vehicle, it could be anything of the above. Also, if you're looking at other platforms like the C7, MMI navigation plus was MMI 3G+, but MMI navigation was actually RMC. Without hands on a 2014-2016 premium trim with the navigation, can't be sure what is actually in it.

Yeah, I really wish the car makers had left the infotainment system to the likes of Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, etc.
