Coolant/oil leak around oil filter housing

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I read that it is a common problem for the housing to leak but I am wondering if it would usually cause an oil and coolant leak at the same time. The car is leaking more coolant then oil also there’s no coolant in the oil as far as I can tell.

i thought i had this issue too .. but what actually happened was i had a OFH leak for a while.. and like most ignored it .. then the water pump started leaking , ran down the front of th eoil pan and was mixing with the oil that was leaking out of the OFH ..

so i pulled the front end and did the OFH water pump , belt and tensioner.... done and dusted , zero leaks.

You may have a coolant leak at the rear flanged fitting. Common problem. The oil filter housing is also known to leak at around the same time. I had both leaks around the same time.

The oil cooler is right at the oil filter housing. If you’re leaking coolant and oil, replace the filter housing with a genuine Audi housing. Don’t use aftermarket. The new housing might come with a new oil cooler gasket, I forget, and you’ll fix both problems at the same time. Or just buy a new oil cooler gasket if it’s not included with the oil filter housing.

Don’t just replace the gaskets or you’ll be leaking again real soon.

They’re on 2 different sides of the motor. What would the coolant flange have to do with the oil filter housing and oil cooler? 🤣

X2 had first hand experience with this. The old housing warps because it's goddamn plastic so the seals won't sit right and cause it to leak again.

I really wish there was a company out there that makes a metal design... Only reason I assume it hasn't been done yet is because of heat soak but I'm no engineer.

I had a coolant leak at the oil filter housing that was from the coolant flange....path is all hidden. I originally thought it was water pump......popped off the cover and it was dry. Then replaced the oil filter housing ...it was due.....still had a leak finally stuck my fingers under the flange and found it wet. Changed it and resolved my issue.

I didn't think it was the flange because the last time the flange was leaking to went straight down onto the tranny and since there wasn't anything there I started elsewhere.

It's one of those items.....wouldn't hurt to feel around the flange and see if its dry.

Read this out loud and tell me in what world that makes sense.

You didn’t have a coolant leak at the oil filter housing/oil cooler if it’s coming from somewhere else🤣🤣😀

No heat soak issue as there's an oil cooler/radiator. I think there's a huge aftermarket potential for metal parts on audi and bmw.

That works......not too particular about the phrase, whatever helps get the message across.
