Model Number For Genuine Audi Dipstick?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just spent an hour reading random dipstick threads. There's differing options, so I just want to confirm if Model number 06E115611H is the correct, Genuine Audi dipstick for the S4, a 2015 B8.5 specifically?

I want to ask very specifically as ECS has different model years, and I read that the oil capacity changed around the MY12 mark. I want to order the one that will be accurate. I called the dealership and they can order it in, but their system does not list the S4 as being a model for this dipstick, but she said that could just be because that car never came with one, and doesn't have a part number associated to it. She mentioned 06E115611H said it was for a 3.2L in their system.

I'll be ordering from the dealership as they want $60 CAD, and ECS is $33 USD + tax, import fees, ect. Pretty much a wash, and it'll be much quicker through the dealer.

Also, I've read the horror stories, and while initially I thought I would leave it in the dipstick tube, I'll just use it for oil changes and checks at home, and keep the cap on instead.

    Thanks everyone.

Some folks leave in the dipstick. That's what I've been doing.
We get over 100 degree weather. But I dont drive long distances. Or do a lot of driving other than going to work and back home.

According to Audiparts, com , that part number does not fit 2015.

I looked back on my amazon purchases and this is what I bought.
I've looked at other website that sold this dipstick and said it was for the b8.5.

When Audi moved to the electronic oil level thermal sensor, they got rid of the dipsticks. So there is no official dipstick for the 2.0T or 3.0T in the B8. Never will be one.

There is the calibration tool, T40178, of which there are third-party knockoffs for cheap on eBay and Amazon. As documented in the Audi materials, the numbers for the 3.0T are 132 for the upper position and the oil level should read from 0 (min) to 13 (max).

Just like us 2.0T owners, no doubt a prior gen dipstick is good enough for home owner work. Do an oil change, put in 90% of capacity, note the oil level, put the rest of the oil capacity in, note the oil level, now you know 90% and 100% on your dipstick. Congrats.

This is exactly what I have done with mine, since I've used the same dipstick in both my B8 and 8.5. I know how much oil I've drained out in my Mityvac, and how much I've put back in, and where it falls on the dipstick. No need to overthink it. I also only use to check the oil and don't leave it in the block otherwise.

Got mine from ECS tuning. .They have a few different styles . And the one for the B8 is supposedly different than the B8.5. However i used my plastic version in both b8 and B8.5. with no issue. ECS will differentiate which disticks fit each model and there is a metal version. BTW, I left my plastic dipstick in for 65k miles with no issues.

Unfortunately my evacuator has garbage markings on it, so I don't know the exact amount pulled out. I think I'm going to put some tape on the side, and measure out each 1/10th above the 6L mark to give a bit better of a reading. That should alleviate a lot of the issues with how much to put back in.

If doing that, and not leaving it in the car, I would think there isn't much risk in buying a cheap on off amazon? There's this MTC 4686 / 06E-115-611H for $18. I was going to buy Audi Genuine, but if I'm not leaving it in the engine, and I'll need to check my own measurements becuase there isn't an "official" one, does it really matter?

There's also X AUTOHAUX Engine Oil Dipstick 06E115611H with the same model number, but no reviews would keep me away.

If you are going to leave it in the car, then buying a decent quality one makes sense for peace of mind, but if you are only using it for checking the oil, then no need to spend a lot of money on one. Mine was the orange plastic one that I had bought from ECS several years ago for around $ 25 IIRC.

Everyone has a different experience but do NOT buy a cheap one. I bought the plastic one from ECS. The plastic tip snapped in half on mine. Lucky I noticed it before I put it back in, I'm sure the filter would of caught it but just saying plastic breaks. I'm buying the aluminum one off of ECS right now.

Here's that tool I found, on Amazon.

    https://www.amazon.com/ENGINE-MOTOR-...ct_top?ie=UTF8

To Smac770 - Is there a way to calibrate in the system on how to read correctly if this tool is showing the 'reading' isn't right?

With the tool identifier I noted, T40178, you should be able to search eBay, Amazon, google, etc, and find any number of viable sources. Though they will all be clones most likely. The official source for Audi special tools here is SnapOn: https://audi.snapon.com/SpecialTools...temId=59870123 But I have no idea how they attempt to justify that price for a thin piece of metal with some marks on it. The B rev appears to just have some extra marks added for the R8. So A or B will be fine for B8 purposes.

As for "what if you find your display is not matching", I don't know. The document doesn't say anything about how to adjust the display level. There's also the question of what is Min. My assumption is that 0mm would match to the Min level on the display, which is not "empty sump" but roughly "yellow oil level warning" time, aka add a quart. But I've never bought the tool as I have no issues with oil consumption or the dash display of the oil level, so I cannot confirm the assumptions first hand.

The ECU reads the values from the thermal oil sensor; you can view these in a tool like VCDS. But it's unclear where the conversion to that display bar occurs. It's there I assume you would look for an adaptation or basic setting to configure the millimeter values that relate to Max and Min on the display bar. It's possible it's a dynamic computation as the mm values will change with the oil temp. One of the values read from the ECU is "oil warning threshold". I'm assuming that relates to the red oil level warning point.
