    Lowering Links for C8 RS7?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm probably going to pull the trigger on an RS7 in the next few weeks, and I'm already looking at wheels and stance. I did the lowering links on my 2016 RS7, and they've been nothing but great for two years. Has anyone confirmed yet if they'll work on the C8? I'm guessing they didn't change much in the way of the air suspension design, but I could be wrong. Fingers are crossed that the same lowering links will work on the C8, but I wanted to ask before I try it.

    Any feedback/insight is appreciated!

Talk to Jose at MTM, he’s already done a few cars with the links

Why lowering links vs factory scan tool?

    Just a heads up.

Lowering links work beautifully when new. If it’s a daily driver though, and exposed to a winter season, they corrode like mad. The ball joint will eventually become seized, and then break the sensor, or even snap the ball stud off.

I used them on a macan turbo, it broke the stud right of the suspension arm after two seasons.
On the S8 it broke the sensors from huge loading from a seized ball joint.

The threads also become inoperative after six months.

Now the design may be different, but mine were threaded steel type construction. I greased them too.

So if your a fair weather show car. It’s a fantastic solution. For me it cost me a stranded macan wth front suspension locked full pumped up with a busted stud hanging off the sensor. And a replacement sensor on two of the wheels for S8.

^ Great info! Thanks. I was just looking at the various lowering options on the air suspension that we all defaulted to in NA.

The MTM links I put on my rs6 where plastic similar to the stock ones.
Should help with some of the issues.

Honestly after seeing how meager factory links are, metal threaded ones seem like unnecessary overkill

Do we know of anyone who has done it with Vag yet? I went that route with my C7 and loved it.

Yep no CETE. Want to show stock at the dealer and vag seems easier and cheaper.

Thanks for all of the info guys! I definitely appreciate the feedback LOU. I'm in central Texas, so no winter weather here. With that said, I'm not going to use the metal links like I did on my C7.5. They were a PITA to get set with the lock nut on both sides, and I agree that it's a bit overkill considering how flimsy the factory links are. If I do links again, I'll go with the MTM's, as suggested. They look easier to set and can't corrode.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the VAG tool would only lower the car around 1/2" on the C7's. I won't let the dealer do it because I just don't have faith that they can. It's the same guys that couldn't set the oil level correct in my current RS7 where I had to go back two more times after an oil change because they overfilled it. While the tech was draining more oil out, the service advisor was telling me that I can't drive the car less than 10 miles at a time or it gets an inaccurate oil level reading. He won the award for the dumbest thing I had heard all week.

C8 can go much lower on Vag. @smoormin’ car went probably 1.75 inches down before he stalled on about 1 inch down for daily driving

@sandjunkie, that's great to know! Thanks for the info. I may go that route as well since it'll go lower.

Are dealers the only people who can do VAG lowering on the C8? I have a 2021 S7 coming soon so am curious about options as well.

I think it just takes someone who knows VCDS very well to figure it out. On my C7.5 everyone in beginning said it couldn't be lowered with VAG. A buddy of mine who is very very good with that stuff figured it out and lowered my car for me.

I was able to do VCDS lowering on my previous C7 S6 just as others have mentioned, my B9 SQ5 however is different. From what I'm hearing VCDS cannot lower the newer air suspension equipped vehicles.

When I tried to use VCDS anyway, the tool was locked out of the module so that you couldn't access the controls. I have heard the Audi Scan tool is the only tool that will lower newer cars.

How much lower can the MTM lowering links provide? I might consider doing that when my S7 arrives.
