High pressure fuel pump replacement cost

I have a 2005 a4 quattro avant 3.2 that the check engine light popped on. When I took it into an auto repair shop and they ran a scan on it and found the check engine light was coming on because of the high pressure fuel pump. They said to replace it would cost about $1500. I was wondering if that about right for the cost or if that was high? Also if maybe a dirty fuel filter could also be causing the issue. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Within the last year I've had both my High Pressure and Low Pressure fuel pumps replaced on my 12 A4 Avant.

The High Pressure was initially quoted pretty high, but that was due to the part cost of the OEM HPFP. I checked ECS and they had a Hitachi pump for about 50% less than the OEM. Ironically, Hitachi is the supplier of the OEM part, they're quite literally the same part. The only difference is the VW/Audi version has a VW/Audi stamp. VW/Audi is quite literally charging a 50% markup for a stamp. Labor cost was only about $90 so I think the total was around $500.

The LPFP unfortunately was a different story as I couldn't find non OEM parts, so that one cost me $1000. It included LPFP and control module.

$1500 sounds like a rip off. The HPFP was warrantied on my allroad last year and the stated "cost" was just under $800, with $500 of that being the pump itself.

Idk where in Wyoming you are but Ft Collins has an Audi dealer, as well as several independent shops. May be worth a drive to save several hundred potentially.

A new pump is about $220 for a Hitachi, not sure if the v6 has 2 like the v8, or 1. But its a 15min job to swap on the 2.0t, so would think similar time. $1500 is crazy!!! Also, fuel issues can be tricky to diag, make sure thats the issue before replacing parts.

Most people use VDO(oem) lpfp's for replacement, $180. And controllers are about $100, depending.
