Oil Cooler / Thermostatic Plate Issue

Curious if anyone has dealt with this before. Not sure what brand the thermostatic sandwich is, but I have a leak that only happens when the car sits and is totally cooled down because oil weeps out of the filter seal since the lip of the filter (Bosch) is contacting the plate (included pictures). When the car is running or is warm it doesn't leak since everything expands and it doesn't leak.

My question is can I remove the filter and take some material off the thermostatic plate to provide more clearance without impacting the integrity of the plate's fitting? Or does anyone have other tips? You can see the filter seal is more compressed at the bottom vs. the top. Would rather not have to drain the oil since it's brand new Motul 300v.

can you cinch those fittings so that they rotate clear of the filter?

another choice would be to use a hammer and smack the lip down around the edge of the filter...

I just loosened the fitting, and was able to tighten the filter own more after removing that interference. I filed down some material off the fitting where it was contacting the filter and will see if that helps.

If not, I'll get a dremel and take more material off so that it clears. Thankfully everything is miraculously accessible for once lol.

I have fitted up a Mocal adapter with a couple different filters and I can't get it to clear the radiator. There isn't enough room to remove the filter. What filter are you running?

There is a shallow version of the oem oil cooler. You might have the thicker version now and swapping them out would give you plenty of clearance. I haven't compared them to a lot of different filters, but the Bosch filters seem to be smaller than the others I've used.

This might be it. I climbed under it sure looks larger than the one you linked. I noticed the linked version is for 4 cyl. cars which would match the size difference. I'll see if I can find dimensions.

I was having some pretty serious heat issues until I swapped to the shallow cooler mixed with a 034 thermostatic sandwich cooler and mishimoto radiator.

Following up on this, I ended up loosening up that AN to NPT fitting and filing off some of the material so it doesn't push on the filter when both are tightened down. So far the leak appears solved.

As for the filter, I used the standard sized B5 S4 filter and it's a very tight squeeze. Anything larger would be impossible to fit.
