Do anyone know how to remove the lower part of the trim? I have not had any success on finding a how-to on the subject. Some help would be appreciated.

Do you mean the lower trim on the rear hatch lid itself. If so for my 2014 model you take off the covers for the lights, and the warning triangle, and remove the four four fasteners. Then you have to use a wedge to release the trim panel from about 8 clips. The rear edge ones came away reasonably easily, but it needed a lot of pulling for the top ones.
