I need a new battery, and none of the local parts stores have any with a BEM code. Where can I get one?

You don’t need to code the battery.

Got mine at advance auto, if your new battery doesn't have one, just change the last digit on your current b to fool the system

Absolutely you do not. Search here google it etc. it’s been discussed multiple times. The only possible and not even guaranteed downside is that it takes the ecu longer to recognize the new battery. That is all. And that’s only sometimes.

Actually it’s not. Search the forum and google it. Just takes longer to adapt. Have had 4 Audi’s. Never had an issue with not coding or adaptation after battery change.

Based on your comment about changing the last digit, I assume the one you bought at Advance Auto doesn't have a BEM code. Correct?

Are you saying they have a BEM code, or are you just telling me what type of batteries they sell at Costco?

My battery from advance auto had bem code on a sticker. If your new battery doesn't have one, you can change the last digit

So I think the c7 has to have a change in the BEM code. I bought a s7 and the previous owner didn’t code it and replaced the battery. The battery kept dying faster. Had the battery checked and it was fine. I coded the bem and made sure the aH setting was right. No issues now. Pretty sure it resets a timer that tells the car how much to charge the battery.

Carquest had one almost identical to the factory battery for a great price.

I bought a die hard AGM platinum from Advance Auto Parts, and the BEM code was hidden UNDER another Die Hard factory sticker, I think it may have been the like generic warning sticker about making sure you take the vent cap off or something similar.

I initially didn't think it had one, and was disappointed as others had said theirs did, but it was there, just not immediately obvious. Interestingly enough, the one I got was 950CCA and 100Ah, but in the newer UDS modules in my/our C7 electronics systems, coupled with the newer VCDS interface for said modules doesn't allow for manual entry of the Ah rating. Even after putting in the BEM code, there are drop down boxes to select Ah, Brand and maybe one more, and the nearest options were 95Ah and 105Ah. I set it to 105, as choosing 95 resulted in weird, over-100% readings in the charge, health and other measurement values, and I didn't think that would be good for the car long-term. Choosing "Unknown" in the hopes it would reference the BEM code to get the proper Ah rating, even with a reset of the controller, just reverted it to whatever the last valid selection stored in the box was.

I can't speak for all Die Hards, but I would think they're the same. Now that I'm thinking about it, the BEM code sticker was white and had a QR code on it, while the sticker that was covering it was a bit bigger and shiny black. Best of luck!

Diehard Platinum AGM battery have BEM code which is covered by the warning label. That said, my 2011 Q5 didn't take the coding using VAGCOM...don't know why. Advance Auto Parts technical support couldn't help me.

A good AZ thread with lots of information is " Battery replacement 4.0T (S6, S7, RS7)". My understanding is that coding a new battery is beneficial but not mandatory. The car will still start with an uncoded new battery (useful design for emergencies). The Audi literature implies that the Battery Control Module helps extend the life of a newly manufactured battery; the coding is how the control module becomes aware that the battery is newly manufactured. As others write, changing one digit on the prior BEM seems to work if the replacement non-OEM battery lacks a BEM.

    That's pertinent information.

Where to buy battery with BEM code?

So technically any BEM code would work, so long as it doesn't match the last one? I'll generate and sell anybody a code for a In N Out combo. No cheating and googling BEM code though, alright?

That's what folk report. Apparently the BEM code is equivalent to a unique serial number, not a VCDS "long coding" number. I'm assuming the chemistry of a newly manufactured battery changes with age, so the charging system adjusts during the early part of the battery's life expectancy. I read that there is no standard in how the car computer calculates battery life expectancy; each vehicle manufacturer has its own proprietary system.
