Leather cleaner/conditioner...what to use that won't leave that Ghetto shines

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking for something easy that doesn't leave the shallacqued wet look so popular amongst the ghetto rides of yester-year. Been trying most off the shelf like Meguiar's that says matte only to find that soul glow still shinin'. Seriously...why do they keep making and selling that shitt - that went out of sytle in the mid 90's. Guess for naive buyers like me to fuck. Who the fuck likes that shitt? I could use it on my tires.

Anyways now I have to work double to remove it.

Started using this https://www.carguysdetail.com/products/super-cleaner. Was a lot better than 303 Aerospace Protectant that made my leather looking super greasy.

I use Adam's polishes or chemical guys. Ive found Chemical Guys to have a better matte sheen than adams. But they both are not Glossy.

    Griot’s Garage 3 in 1 leather cleaner.
Apply liberally and allow to sit. The longer the better. Buff with a microfiber towel and allow to dry.
It gives a nice matte finish.
They sell it at most auto stores.

So I'm assuming this is the cleaner. I could use something like this to remove the damn oil slick on my steering wheel and to stop me slipping out of my seat, but is there a one stop shop for cleaner AND conditioner or is that dreaming unless I stay with soul glow for car interior?

+1 for Griot's 3 in 1, just used it on my black leather, great finish, good smell, easy to use. They even have a diluted spray bottle if you don't want to mess with the goopy stuff.

I haven't found an all-in-one yet. The 303 was the most recommended but all it did was make my shit super greasy. Only way around it was to wipe it down again with a dry microfiber.

I used Adams polishes cleaner and conditioner for general cleaning/upkeep and really like it. Smells great as well!

I’ve used the Lexol. I was pretty happy with it. Both that and Griot’s I felt were great products with a matte finish.

I use the Lexol products as well the 2 bottle package cleaner/conditioner.
    Doesn’t leave a sticky-glossy surface and doesn’t attract dust.

I've used these 2, you can find them in most stores, they work well and aren't glossy/greasy

    - Mother's VLR (cleaner/conditioner combo)
    - Lexol conditioner (they make a separate cleaner too)

as for your experience with the 303, i believe you are supposed to buff it off after, it's not meant to stay greasy. also that's more for UV protection but i dont think 303 will really provide any moisturization or benefit to the leather itself otherwise. so you're better off using a leather product and save the 303 for the dashboard, door panels, exterior rubber/plastic trim, etc.

I’ve been using this Lexol product and put on with a clean wax applicator, let sit a few minutes and then buff off with a microfiber towel and works well

many modern cars dont even have leather .. they call it " bonded leather" which essentially means it isnt" if its not leather it wont soak in and ends up leaving the shiney look.

In 7 years I’ve never really done anything to the leather and it looks fine. Could probably use a cleaning I suppose. But the back seats never get used so they pretty much look new. The front drivers seat has a bit of a patina but it looks to me like how leather should look.

Our cars don't have "leather". Use lexol ph to clean them and lexol conditioner to keep them nice. You want a ph neutral (hence lexol ph) cleaner that won't damage the material and dry it out. You can use vinylx too which keeps the plasticizers in good condition within the material. Real leather conditioners won't really do much except make them oily.

Sline seats have real leather on the bolsters and where alcantara isn't and pretty sure steering wheel and shift knob is real leather at least it is on sline.

The leatherique still works good on the leatherette esp if you need to soften it up and the way the product works is it pulls the nasty shit out then you clean it.

I agree the Lexol is good stuff tho and for the cost is prob best choice for leatherette.

hhhmmmm that is confusing to me as it contradicts the window sticker and audi's website.\

"The leather used for Audi seats comes mainly from the skins of male cattle from southern Europe. To maintain the genuineness of the leather, it is gently refined using substances including vegetable dyes. This creates a material that is durable, long lasting and highly emotive in equal measure.

We conduct over 30 different tests before selecting the right leather. These are designed to check such parameters as abrasion resistance, light fastness, shrinkage behaviour, bending strength, resistance to tensile forces, emissions and flammability. Only once it has passed all tests is the leather cleared for use in seats and interior equipment.

In keeping with the seats, you can add Audi exclusive leather upholstery and trim to the rest of the interior. Here, too, there are virtually no limits to your imagination. You might add leather to the steering wheel, or the door trim, or just individual parts of the seats. Rounding off the range is a wide selection of colours for contrasting stitching, floor mat edging, carpet and seat belts."

    https://www.audi.com/en/experience-a.../interior.html

Edit: But as i said before i only buy cars with alcantara; so much better than leather.

It's real leather. They patent it in a different way. Those of you that had the B5 will remember similar. Tell tale sign is as your A4 seats start to brake in look for stretching at the base center - where your asshole sits directly above. Euro lines...Mercedes was the first to incorporate it into their cars way back I believe.

Unless you have an S-line or a S4 with the upgraded seats, its leatherette, it even says so on the part description on the Audi website.

Sure sure. There is no way it’s fake leather. I’ve had leatherette on late model VW and MBs, and it’s very obvious. The Monroney sticker says “leather seating surfaces” for my base model Audi. It wears like leather. It smelled like leather (when new). It feels like leather. So unless we have a full on leather-gate scandal going on here and Audi figured out how to grow synthetic cows cost effectively, then it’s just plain leather with a clear coat.

I totally agree with this I’ve been in many other cars that have leather seats and you can tell from miles away that, that thing is leatherette not only looks but smells and feels “fake” leather.
Our cars definitely have real leather wether it’s s-line half/half, sport seats or regular base seats.

Chemical guys leather cleaner worked in with a horsehair brush, wipe that off with a microfiber towel, condition with a NEW microfiber towel and Chemical guys leather conditioner. I have tried other product and procedures but this technique and product set is by far the best. The leather is night and day different after doing that. Do that to your S Line and tell me you'd use anything different or want a car done in alcantara [foam]...
