Advice required Audi Q7 3.0T 2015 (old shape)

    Hi,

I'm already a owner of a 2018 SQ5 and would like to purchase a 2015 3.0T Q7 with a sport line body kit (photo attached).
I've been advised by friends about few issues of the 3.0t V6 engine and while trying the car for the first time (it was a cold start) I've noticed a light rattling noise during 1-2 seconds only but nothing at all after during the second test drive (car was already on temperature) nothing noticed during the second test drive. I'm a bit concerned about the chain tensioner issue reported by many of you. How to detect this problem?is this problem been fixed for the latest production car ?How much this repair cost?
The car has 2 owners with a clear service history with 105000kms (around 70K miles).
    Thanks for your help...

Ours has that same rattle at 45k miles.

Some people seemingly spend hundreds of dollars trying to diagnose this noise, but I haven’t read about anyone having this actually cause degraded performance in any way.

Seems to be more of an unpleasant noise, if anything.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Yeah the noise was there for 1-2 seconds only and no noise after warm up. I have a lot of mods on my list for this car and don't want to spend thousands on repair.

    First mod....
Might be the most challenging but it will be unique!
With the sport body kit the Q7 is coming with the nice exhaust tips implemented in the rear bumper, it's similar to the RS6/7. AKRAPOVIC is offering a nice exhaust for the RS6/7 with gorgeous carbon/titanium tips, I'm looking to modified the exhaust by a very professional workshop specialised in exhaust in titanium and install the Akrapovic tips on it (yeah I know sounds like copying but Akra is not providing the exhaust for our bae).

That noise for the first few seconds is normal, the tensioners use oil pressure so when the car sits the pressure drops. Mechanically the chains cannot come off the sprockets, they are just loose for a second till the oil pressure builds.

Like said above some people fixate on it and throw money trying to make It go away, but it’s normal.

Now if that sounds lasts for more than a minute on startup that is a sign your tensioners are failing.

Yup normal. Does it on most all of the audis I've owned. My s6 v10 doesnt tho dunno why not.

Sound is less / shorter duration after an oil change you will come to see

I have a 15 3.0t q7 with 72k miles. I got lucky I guess. Not rattle on cold start. Even with a few days of not running, and I start it up with the hood open and windows down it sounds perfect. My only complaint about it is it's slow as balls. Gonna do the pulley upgrade and hope that helps but there's really not much to do to the 4L q7 performance wise. It's the wife's car anyway. I'm about to pick up a 2015 sq5 for myself so I can get a decent powered suv for trips to the mountain.

I've noticed this rattle on all my previous 3.0T cars with 5w40 dealer fill oil service. I usually use 0w40 and the rattling is non-existent on startup (i believe it's because the tensioner gets oil alot quicker with the 0w versus the 5w). The only time that it does rattle for a second or so is when it the vehicles sit for about a week without running.

Hey I just purchased the same one! I'm interested in what you do with the exhaust! Please update with pics when you get it done!
