    Best coilovers for the money?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got any recommendations on what are a good set of coilovers for the money? Lots of products, but the range is really wide. I prefer asking those in the know than pick and guess!

Just looking to have good ride comfort, while having nice street performance. I'm just looking for OEM+ performance and reduce my tire-fender gap.

Not looking to go crazy, $0-$1500 is my range.

Solowerks - $550, 2.5" max drop, colored blue, fixed dampening
ECS Coilovers - $600, 2.7" max drop, colored black shock bodies, silver springs, and red rings, adjustable dampening and preload, dampening is hard to adjust when installed
BC Racing (known as "Stance Coils") - $1000, minimum 2 inches of drop with over 3" max drop, colored black shock bodies and springs, silver rings, adjustable dampening and preload, dampening is easy to reach, rebuildable
HR Street Performance - $1300, 2.2" max drop, fixed dampening, colored silver shock bodies, red rings, and red springs

These are gonna be your best bet options. I originally went with Solowerks because I found some for $300, but went with BC for the lowering. Also, Stasis is good, but I'm pretty sure they went bankrupt in 2013 and no longer produce, well, anything. Those are gonna be the main/well-known coils in that price range. I added in colors because the Solowerks blue really hurt my eyes to look at sometimes. I prefer the black OEM look.

Nothing is wrong with springs from H&R or 034 w stock shocks. Lots of people go that route and are happy with drop and handling. Cheaper and without the coilover headaches.

I read that H&R has an issue where the rear installation isn't so good?

Haven't seen any complaints with H&R coils before. If you install them correctly then they'll be good. Haven't seen complaints on H&R springs either unless I'm missing something.

Springs are a cost-effective option too. The only thing I've ever seen that could be an issue with springs is that some companies don't make them stiff enough and will cause more scraping on bumps. Example, my friend with a MK7.5 GTI on springs is about 4.5 inches off the ground and would scrape on our canyon runs while I was about 3 inches off the ground on coilovers and didn't scrape. For springs, I would go with 034 as they tend to produce the best items and have more R&D invested in the B8 as they are Audi/VW specific. If you think you would want to adjust ride height in the future, coilovers would be a better option obviously.

I installed my coilovers in 2015 in my garage. I had zero issues with the install in the rear and zero issues with the rear since then. That being said, I had to warranty the fronts within a month because they were both leaking onto my CV axles.

ohlins are the best and anyone that says different doesn't know what their talking about.

Do it right or do it twice.

I suggested stasis ohlins is because a used set fully rebuilt runs about 1500-1800 and you can buy a second set to have when rebuild time comes. Spring rates thru hyperco can be had at any rate you want or eibach for standards rates. To dial in for your specific desires.

Agreed. I would just go with air at that point (I'm biased because my car is already bagged to be fair). The only reason to spend $3k on coilovers is if you do track or autocross regularly imo

No way. That's too much. That's basically track/VIP style all in one. Was just looking for OEM+, not superstreet VIP.

For a non-track car, I’m very satisfied with Solowerks. 2 years and no issues.

I agree 3k is too much. Thats why I suggested stasis ohlins u can buy them for 1500-1800 fully rebuilt. Maybe less if your lucky.

Solo are shit anyone who thinks their good has never had real suspension or doesn't know how a car should really feel.

If you dont absolutly need adjustable height I would highly reccomend a good spring shock combo. Theres some good kits out there that are a great option for the cost.
