Anyone have their car wrapped? TT RS mk3

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am planning on getting my car wrapped!

Is there anything to watch out for regarding the TT RS mk3 body lines and such I should be aware of? Also, colors I am contemplating: Tiffany Blue (gloss), and Satin black. Part of me wants to go completely wild with the colors since I'm getting it wrapped. Part of me wants to keep it stealthy. Thoughts?

I had mine done (clear) and haven't had any issues. It actually saved me from a rock recently. Torn the wrap, but didn't damage the paint. I left the car in the sun for a couple of hours and the wrap healed itself - just as advertised.

Yeah, so my car does have xpel on it and I've always xpel'd all of my cars. I'm curious about full body vinyl wraps.

Sick. So the vinyl was underneath the clear bra?

Btw, picked 3M Key West (Tiffany Blue). Loud color but somehow drawn to it. Fingers crossed!

    Vinyl only has ceramic.

Grill, bumper, etc, that’s all clear bra

Oh also, can the wrapper wrap over the amber side markers?

Quick question. My wrapper said that the fender lines are extremely close to the bumper and there is risk of it “bunching” up. He showed me an example of an m3 and gtr. Anyone have issues with wrap bunching up between panel gaps?

So if he says that then I would be out. Why risk the "oh it bunched up, told you".

So guess I am not wrapping the car. For anyone who doesn’t know about wrap and thinking about getting your TT wrapped, there is a high chance your front and rear bumper will rub against your front and rear fender due to how tight the panel gap is. If and “when” it does, the film will crinkle/ bunch up. YouTube videos don’t go over these things and I had to hear it and see it from the installers/ the cars they have. If they don’t tuck the vinyl to prevent rubbing, the vinyl will lift.

How’s that rubbing between the bumpers and fenders? Would that rubbing could happen as well it if you take off a bumper and don’t aligned it well?

    Thanks!

Exactly. It all comes down the quality of the vinyl used and skills of the installer.

So I don't think you guys are understanding what I am talking about. This isn't about the vinyl lifting. The panel gaps between the fender/ bumper for our cars are EXTREMELY close. Say for example an R8, you can clearly tell that the gap is larger (another example would be the new supra). I contacted 3 highly reputable shops that use inoztek (best vinyl currently in the market) or 3m 2080. They all said that the panel gap is the risk. The vinyl can sit perfectly but as you drive the car over say a bump and the bumper and fender "rubs" during this process, the immense force would cause anything to bunch up. PPF doesn't have this issue because it's installed on top of panels, without tucking (minus the hood/ doors).

You're right. I don't have any idea what your talking about. All I know is I've done all the work on my car and taken off the bumper several times, and the panel gaps seem the same as most other cars besides Tesla's lol. Second of all, one of my close friends owns a shop and he's done a bunch of 8s TTs with no issues. He's also done dozens of M3s and GTRs as well, no issues Third, we have a member who posted right before one of your posts who has no issues in over a year, along with another who posted up a picture of his car, wrapped Either way, I'm done with this thread. Made my point. Good luck with whatever choice you make. =]

I didn’t have any intention of being offensive. I re read my post and I could see how it could have come across that way. I had wanted to point out panel gaps and the next message was about me possibly having a bad wrap shop telling me these things so I thought that the panel point was not communicated to you all. Anyways, decided against it so thank you anyways.

I didn't think your post was offensive at all. I just wanted to let you know that wrapping your car is a viable option. Just make sure you find the right installer. Also, most reputable shops will fix any sort of issue that arises. Like my friend's shop will warrant any defects within a 5 year period, no questions asked. Getting your car dipped is also an option if you haven't considered it. A professional dip job will last around 3 years, and is really budget friendly.

It’s a giant sticker, not a heart stent. I think that shop is either inexperienced, too paranoid, or both. I agree with going somewhere else. IG has dozens of wrapped MK3s.

@Cloud IX yeah man. Thanks. It's hard to make out context on forums. I'm all about just good vibes
@Chuckster can you check out this video at 5:10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHw5IwHq5VQ&t=11s

This is the primary thing I'm worried about- have you or anyone else that has gotten their mk3 wrapped experience this?

So quick update. I found another shop that warranties their wraps for 3 years (most of the shops I contacted was 1 year). This one also said that the fender/ hood is not uncommon depending on how many bumps and how hard your car takes them. But they said they do warranty that crumpling if it were to occur so I'm sold! Going with them.

I will! Seeing them tomorrow to make a deposit. The only limiting factor is whenever TAG ships my painted side markers. I need them installed before the wrap

i had mine cleared (3M) for over 2 years now. just have to go to a reputable shop and an installer that will take his time and not cut corners, ive gotten a few rock chips here and there that is only on the surface but once peeled off, there is no marks on the paint, so the clear bra does what its supposed to do. some shops will remove the bumper and/or side skirts to installed the wrap which you wont have too much an issue with it shrinking over time if the car sit in the sun. this is my 4th car that i had wrapped with no issues.

Anyone have their car wrapped? TT RS mk3

Thanks for your experience. I have always clear brad my car with xpel so I am well aware of how well it holds up. This thread was about dry vinyl wrapping. The material is much weaker than clear bra and the vinyl is tucked much more differently than clear bra (with clear bra, there is no need to tuck behind panels since it’s clear).

Just from reading this am I taking it as you being concerned for the wrap crumpling and bunching up because of panel gap tolerance when going over bumps and such....

As in like lowered, bottoming out ?

I don’t see this being an issue for the tt lowered or not

Hey sirsycott. Yes to the pangel gap tolerance, but no to being lowered/ bottoming out necessarily. Just minor bumps/ vibration. (fender/ hood panel gap)

    Should be fine then ,

I’ve seen plenty of wrapped /ppf 8s bodies holding up fine since they came out

Daily driving won’t affect any of this
