Best tire size to run on OEM Wheel

I purchased a 2019 Audi RS3 and on the way home I hit a pothole and blew the sidewall out on the OEM Pzeros, within 5 minutes of ownership LOL. I was thinking of doing a fresh set of PS4s, on the stock Audi 19 wheels. what is the best size setup for front/back.

I run 245/35 19s all around and think it’s a good compromise instead of the staggered tires

what's the reason for lowering the size from 255?

The stock fronts are 255/30 19 I switched to 245/35 for a meatier tire. The 30 and 35 are just a ratio of the 255 and 245 respectively, so the 245 tire is actually thicker than the 255 tire. I didn’t notice any grip loss with the 10 mm reduction in front tire width, but now less of a chance I blow a tire out. I was worried about rubbing with 255/35 19 as I’m on coils.

Thank you. The town is paying for the tire replacement since the road is so bad. They actually already paved it within 24 hours of my incident lol. next summer I will be doing a set of 245/35/19 PS4s, do not want to buy a set right now and turn around to buy another set for winter :/

As an "FYI" I replaced the 235/35/19 wheels/tires on our 2019 RS 3 within the first weeks with Neuspeed RSE10 18 wheels and Michelin AS3+ 245/40/18 tires, to better deal with and survive our badily worn country back roads we've been running for 30+ years. Major improvement, but I may change to 255/40/18 in the future if we find they will actually fit within the 2019 RS 3's wheel wells. Some say yes, others say no. We have a bit over 5k miles on this setup on these back roads, and another 5k miles on 'normal' better condition highways. The 235/35/19 were simply not a satisfactory configuration on the roads we run, primarily due to their poor surface condition allowed to become worse over the years.

I'm going to be fitting a 265/35/18 on all 4 with the 034 wheels not sure the dimension difference between Neuspeed and 034... they claim they fit so we will see seems like a lot of tire.

Provided you like understeer. My winter set is square and what a difference for the worse.

I personally hate big diameter wheels and low profile tires soI always put 18" or below if the calipers allows it. As far is tires, I run square 255's 35 but I also have another set of 235/40'. The OEM tires ride horribly, I already dislike the magnetic ride a lot so add the fact that the car comes with low profiles and the end result is a train wreck.

    Learning question here.
If you switch to the same size tire all around, won't that throw off the diameter balance since the wheels are staggered width?

It actually corrects it because the factory staggered setup is not quite matched heights. But, it's close enough it doesn't really matter.

Personally I stick with the staggered fitment for my summer setup.

There's a lot of tire info out there, some good, some indifferent. Everyone runs the PS4S in 245 because it seems to be a simple solution that works. I spent countless hours researching this and decided to go with the PS4S in 235-35-19 square on staggered wheels. IMO the wheels don't look as bulged as the 245 and I've yet to have any traction issues on my stock power level. Adding a rear sway bar also helps to keep the car feeling neutral, definitely feels like it understeers less than it did with the factory Pirelli setup.

Also as a point of reference since it hasn't been mentioned yet the Pirellis are custom made for the car and DO NOT conform to standardized tire sizing. There's a picture floating around the internet where someone has a 255 P Zero RO2 and a 235 PS4S side by side and they are the same width. Also the Pirellis are a little more rounded whereas the Michellin really pushes the tread block squarely to the edge. For some this could cause rubbing issues on lowered cars, especially if trying spec any larger than 245.

Noticed my passenger front is down to the cords today while installing some parts. Not covered on the tire and wheel warranty even though car has less than 11k and only been to Audi dealers. Seems lame to me.

Anyways, what is the suggested tire to go with for the 245/35/19? I only really need one replaced, the other three have good wear and decent tread left. At a minimum both fronts should be replaced right?

OK I'm glad you said this, I was just at the shop today and we discovered this on the passenger front inside. They said they had not seen it before on the RS3, I have 8,600 miles and I'm down to the cords. They also asked if I had tracked the car, I grinded and said nope just back roads. PS4S ordered and new wheels as I want to try out 18" wheels with a square setup so I can rotate wheels.

Interesting. What year is your RS 3? Wonder how many people have had this problem. Is your only the passenger front? All my other three have even tread wear with a good amount left. Audi dismissed me entirely over the phone earlier when I asked for it to be replaced. Only ever been serviced at Audi, never tracked, never been re-aligned, don't really drive it all that hard either. Something is a miss here.

Mine is a 2019, driver side has a bit more but would not say a good amount left. Rears on the other hand look pretty good, I do drive on the spirited side and have a stage 1+ E85 tune. As such I'm not going to ask the dealer to warranty the tire, also from other performance cars/tires I have owned OEM tires are not good for more than 12-15k max. Most are done by 9-10k but usable till maybe 11k if you aren't in winter conditions. The shop told me it looks like excessive toe which makes sense why its the right side as they compensate for road crown by adding more toe to the right side.

Any idea what they are going to change the toe to for the front?

If you are going to go with the same size tire on all 4 wheels you need to change them all. Tire recommendations, daily-Falken Azenis 510, daily/light track - continental extreme contact sport, daily/medium track - Michelin pilot super sport 4S.

There is a legimate problem with the match of the front tires and the car, a lot of people have worn the inside edges right out while the middle is still fine. Mine were done at 9.5k. Alignment checked out fine and my replacement tires I've had for about 8k now and are wearing normally. If you do a search there is a huge thread on the Audi-Sport forum about it.

That's interesting to see that the aftermarket tires are doing better. My next set is just going to be square so I can at least rotate them to help get a few miles out of a set. My M3 did the same thing to all tires, alignment was in spec but they just have a very aggressive alignment from the factory. Was more pissed on that car since rears were almost $1K for 2 and the front was a little cheaper but still about $700.
