Stupid ?: buying a used S5 within warranty from an Audi dealer....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
.... does it make any sense to pay to have independently inspected? I’m all about independent inspections for out of warranty cars, or cars sold by a third party, but in this case, with a clear (and comprehensive) service record, another 16 months of Audi Care left, and the ability to purchase Audi platinum within that same window... is there any reason to send it to an indy?

Again, I’m not cheap, but I don’t want to waste money, either.

    Thanks in advance.

(For those wondering, I’m the schmuck who started a thread about buying a used B8.5 RS5 not too long ago... thing is, after driving two each of B85 RS5s and B9 S5s, I’ve become completely smitten by the latter (and no, B9 RS5 is not in the budget).

I’d have it inspected. If it has mechanical issues then they can be fixed under warranty. If it has been wrecked, you can negotiate or walk away.

I would say it is unnecessary but you want to understand the difference between original factory warranty vs. CPO and that AudiCare is prepaid maintenance and not a warranty. I am sure you you have all that covered.

You don't want an RS car anyway without at least a V8.

I'll take two fewer cylinders and ~900lb less curb weight, every single time.

I'd say get it inspected. Get the CarFax. Is it CPO?

The Curb weight for the RS6 is not yet listed but I think it's safe to say it's going to weigh at least as much as the RS7.

Don't get me wrong, those cars look and sound amazing. And supposedly tuners are already unlocking over 900hp with just a tune. That said, I don't care how much power you have, lugging a car around corners, which weighs as much as an F150, simply is not appealing to me.

Ahh, I was confused since he was replying to the OP wavering between B8.5 RS5s and B9 S5s.

I had no idea RS7s weighed so much. Even finding out now I find it difficult to believe. How tf could that car weigh 5k lbs!?!?

All this time I thought Dodge/Chrysler were the kings of porky high horsepower cars. Sheesh.

Oh, yikes. I misinterpreted that. If that's the case, I'm going to assume he was being facetious since the TTV6 in the B9 wipes the floor with the NA V8 in the B8/B8.5.

Right? That's the big complaint coming to light over on the RS6/RS7 forum. The reality is it's a massive car that weighs a ton (2.5 tons, actually). For reference, its main rivals, the new BMW M5 and AMG GT63 S weigh "only" 4345lbs and 4447lbs, respectively.

Hell, even the 2021 Audi Q7 weighs 150lbs less (4784lbs).

I apologize to the OP for straying of topic, but the weight of my S7 was a big reason why I switched over to a B9 RS 5 Sportback. You can really feel the weight in the corners driving a S7
