Differences between US and Euro Spec S3 8V

I tried to do a search on this but wasn't totally able to find the answer to my question so here goes (it's a quick one):

What are the differences between the US and Euro Spec versions that account for the difference in HP (us: 292 while the Euro version gets 310).

Does multiport injection alone make up that extra 18hp?? What changed for us here in the States?

Simple answer because in USA we always get the leftovers. We never get the fun stuff from manufacturer be it from Japan or Europe.

The same for the 8.5V S3. You can retrofit the European headlights and tail lights onto the U.S. models. I've thought about it but I'm not a fan of the price. Europe also gets the 4 door sportback and 2 door hatchback S3 models while the U.S. only gets the sedan/saloon 4 door model. I'm sure there are other small differences that others will point out.

I mean model wise there will be times of differences as they are market specific. The list go on from sedan to hatchback to 2 doors, to headlights and bumpers, rims, different interior trims, to models that had different dimensions for interiors like in china that Audi's have more rear leg room. I think he mean engine wise.

True there are a of different specs including trims and interior pieces etc..

What I’m more curious is About the S3: Specifically how does the Euro spec S3 have more HP than the US based S3?

I reckon it has to do with meeting emissions regulations pretty much.

As I remember it, the S3 started with 300hp and this was reduced to 292hp. The loss was a measurement issue and not a reduction in power. I believe the power, measured in kw, stayed the same throughout the change. North America did not get the boost to 310hp. I suspect this was an easy tweak for Europe. It is possible that the fuel is better in Europe. My guess is that the 310hp could not be applied to the US because the climate is too hot in the South. Hot climates like South Africa have lower power ratings. Making the 310hp suitable for the US South may have involved too much work/effort to make it worthwhile.

Kind of I'm USA now but spend the las 12 yrs living in Europe. Not so much that gas is better. But European petrol stations sell higher octane fuel than American ones - you can't get “92 octane” in Europe. 95 is the standard minimum

For example options in Finland at the Pump. I'm definitely missing being able to fill my tank there. I'm sure my S3 will love some 98 lol!2020072815481325164.jpg

    Octane ratings are measured differently.

'In Europe, the octane rating on the pump is simply the RON figure. America, by contrast, uses the average of the RON and the MON figures, called the AKI (anti-knock index). Thus, 97 octane “super unleaded” in Britain is roughly equivalent to 91 octane premium in the United States.'

I think I recall it being 300hp in the US a while back, and I believe they just measured it differently to arrive at 292hp. Also perhaps it's measured in metric hp in Europe vs. the US? That would only be like a 5hp difference at 310hp, but it would get the two values closer (i.e. original US @ 300hp before measurement change and euro @ 305 "US"hp)?

Just postulating, I could be way off base. I do know there's different emissions requirements and such, so I'm not trying to say the powertrains are the exact same or anything - just maybe closer than it seems on paper?
