B5 S4 2.7T heater core return hose NLA!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The S4 heater core return hose part number is 8D0819373T. It's no longer available from Audi, and places like FCP Euro don't have it. ECS Tuning lists it as "backordered" with no ETA.
The A4 2.8 version has part number 8D0819373R and is available from non-Audi sources. The S4 heater core feed hose 8D0819371AQ is still available from Audi.

    So my questions are:

    1. Does anyone know where I could source a proper S4 return hose?
    2. How different is the S4 version from the A4 2.8 version? Can the 2.8 hose be used on the S4 without undesirable twists or kinks?

    I need this hose pronto!

    Thanks in advance.

You can reuse the hose as the part that typically fails is the seal in the connectors that attach to the engine side. You can get a new connector and heat-shrink Gates clamp and replace that, or for a good used option Audis4parts can supply a good used part.

I'm in the process of a manual swap and forgot to disconnect the heater core lines when I dropped the motor and need the supply line as well. I'd definitely be interested to hear if there are alternatives that are close enough to sub. My hose was okay but the connector broke. That do88 kit doesn't look like it comes with the quick disconnects for the heater hoses...

I am replacing the hose because previously my stock heater core's plastic fittings broke, so I jerry-rigged extra short hoses, plastic couplings and shortened the stock hoses (at the heater core end) to fit. That held fine but the heater core started leaking, so now I am replacing the heater core, and would like to go back to proper length hoses so it's original-nice again. I would consider a used hose only if I can't find a new one anywhere.

I was just pointed to this thread:
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...se-not-working

So the 2.8 hose won't work on an S4. But the problem seems to be with the plastic piece attached to the bottom end of the hose (opposite end of the heater core) being too small. I wonder if it's possible to remove that plastic piece from the hose and install my original one on it.

Gates makes a heater core return hose for the A4 2.8 (Gates 19789) without that plastic end. It might be easier to just order that hose and add the appropriate plastic end connector on it.

Also, where did you buy those VAICO hose connectors?

I bought them off eBay for like $6 a piece but I'm pretty sure ecs and like will carry them. They are from a new Beatle and a mk4 golf/jetta. V10-9706 and V10-9858 are the part numbers

OK, thanks, I found both styles on ebay. Which one is for which? I need the one for the return hose, should I order the one with the bend or no bend? Please also confirm that these fit the S4 2.7T coolant pipe.

I just stopped at an O'reilly and they had both the dorman 627-002 and gates 19789(the connector and hose separately). I'll know tonight when I get back in town whether they fit or not.

Great! I have a Gates 19789 hose and a URO parts 3B0122291B connector on order as well, but I won't get to verify fitment until both arrive, probably a week from now. If you get to try this before me, do tell how it works out! You are installing this on an S4 right?

I think we have a winner.

The bottom hose and connecter are the gates/dorman combo. The hose above it is the factory one it's replacing and the next two are the supply. (factory one and OE audi replacement.)

Yes, these are going on an 01 s4

It's installed and it fits. The gates hose could be a quarter to a half inch longer but it's not a huge deal.

An update: I just finished installing a new heater core in my B5 S4 with a factory supply hose 8D0819371AQ and a Gates 19789 return hose with the 3B0122291B plasic clip (URO 008161). It fits perfectly.

Btw, instead of the stock 8D1819030B heater core, I used the late B5 Passat version 8D1819031C, which is all-metal including the hose fittings. It also fits perfectly, should have much longer life, and I'll never have to worry about cracking/breaking the hose fittings again.

Well I'll be a toaster's yo-yo. I just looked up that part, it looks like the feed and return pipes are a little far apart. 8D1819031C was literally a direct drop in fit? Do you have a pic of it installed, from the heater core hoses side? I'm really curious.

Yes, it's a direct and perfect fit. I didn't take a photo but it's literally the same as the stock heater core, except it's all metal.

Another important part NLA for the b5 s4.

    This is slowly becoming the c4 S4 / S6.

I was pretty pissed to hear about the engine block drain plugs going NLA. Drivers door handle, sunroof switch.

I wish Audi would either sub-contract older Audi parts or something to bring us parts back for the B5 S4. It was one of the cars that saved Audi from going under (again), you'd think they'd at least reward the buyers by helping them by supplying parts for the car, especially important parts like this. Plus it's one of the most loved and popular cars to boot.

Ugh... At least MB, Porsche, and BMW still provide parts for their classical cars.

    Hear hear!

Audi does supply some parts for old models through “Audi Tradition”, but it’s nowhere complete, and they do not ship to the US for some odd reason. I heard that Audi USA does not want them to bypass its dealer parts network, and don’t want to get into supporting old models either, even though they use Audi’s rich history and heritage in their advertising.

I know some people get around Audi USA by using a 3rd party outside of the US to buy from Audi Tradition and then have the parts reshipped to the US.

Was this a recent change? I worked for an Audi dealer in parts last year and we were ordering from Audi Tradition? It took a hell of a long time but stuff would come. Just a few months ago I grabbed a brand new dash cup holder.

You're assuming their supplier still offers the part. Those brands also all offer in-house restoration services for classic models, both here and abroad. Different game, different players.

The piece that generally fails is the coupler - the VW one works. I tried the 2.8 hose, wasn't comfortable with it being shorter, and elected to reuse my stock one with the VW fitting. Worked fine.

B5 S4 2.7T heater core return hose NLA!

You must have worked at a very accommodating dealer! I don’t think Audi USA ever officially endorsed its dealer network getting parts from anywhere else, including Audi Tradition.

I think it had more to do with the fact that a few of us were auto enthusiasts that owned older Audis, so we pushed the issue. IIRC, all the contact info was in the Audi web portal. Email a buyer with info, get a quote/ETA and order it up. Once it was ordered it was billed and processed like any normal Audi part.

Hey all! Update on the Vaico V10-3010 connector. REALLY hard to find on Ebay, all seem to be in Europe. Equivalent from WorldPac is MTC P/N 4908 for VW P/N 1K0 122 291H. Little less than 5 bucks wholesale. Cheers!

    Gents,
I know this threads a bit older,
But does anyone have a part number for the supply hoses if I’m doing the gates hose and Speer are connectors?
The link with the attachment doesn’t seem to work anymore and I’m in the same spot on my C5 Allroad. Parts are NLA and I need a supply and return for the heater core.

Good question. I bought everything listed here a ways back new for my avant build and was just looking at my parts stash. Apparently all I'm missing is the supply hose too. Seems like some people use the 2.8 supply hose but it's a little short?

Usually you can reuse the old hoses and replace the connectors on the ends, but I would also like to know if anyone found a suitable supply hose replacement other than just a cut segment of hose from autozone?

At this point we are talking 21 year old rubber parts! That’s about double the life expectancy! I’ve been replacing other coolant hoses and they are all failing. Some preemptive, others have been outright failing and I’m aiming to keep the Allroad a daily driver.

Re-use your hoses or get some used ones from a part out or audis4parts.com. I put some aluminum connectors on mine. They may be leaking tho, so maybe go with the regular plastic ones.

I did find that for the supply hose 8D0819371AQ they are available new through Audi Tradition for about 60 Euros.

There are some variations of the return hose available there too, but not the exact "T" part variation of 8D0819373T that is the S4 part. No big deal on that one since we've got good alternatives available for the return hose.

It looks like ECS carries an "OES" version of that return hose (T part). https://www.ecstuning.com/b-original...d0819373t~oes/

Thats a pretty comical price though! Wish I could figure out who that supplier is and how to order from them instead.

Thats a pretty comical price though! Wish I could figure out who that supplier is and how to order from them instead.
ECS has it as backordered with no ETA…so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s NLA like other sites have it listed.

Yeah if it's nla everywhere else usually ecs is the last to mark them nla and will string you along for months or years with hope til they finally admit they won't be getting any again.

Same as with the cowls, I had like 4 ordered just in case, and I think it was a full year of bumping eta til they finally just marked them unavailable and canceled my orders.

That is an different brand though, so maybe that company is trying to make an nla item.
