    Exclamation LongRoof Rally - 2020

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

2020 has been a strange year, but there is something good that is coming out of it - the inaugural LongRoof Rally.

For those who have joined us in past years, this new event will continue to be everything that you came to know and love in the past as organized by Bryan, Dan, Graham, and Matt. We intend to deliver you the best event possible, and nothing less.

As is tradition, Saturday finds us beginning the event at Historic Lime Rock Park. Upon departure we cruise up extremely scenic back roads in NY/CT to Stratton, VT where we then proceed to park our cars and enjoy the fantastic company of like minded enthusiasts while taking in the scenic views that Stratton Mountain has to offer. This year at the Stratton Mountain parking lot, we will have on site a local food truck catering to drivers and passengers of the LongRoof Rally from 2-4PM.

Sunday kicks off with more driving in the gorgeous VT mountains finding us heading North East from Stratton towards Quechee, VT and then turning West and stopping along the way at an outdoor local brewery. Following this pit stop, we travel South back towards the LongRoof Rally house for a relaxing afternoon and a “Drive-In” movie accompanied by food and refreshments. There will also be plenty of time on Sunday for pictures and driving videos of the group.

This thread will serve as a repository for you to share photographs of the event, discuss planning and travel, and connect with familiar faces.

Of course, this event wouldn’t be possible without our amazing partners:

But tomorrow the downpipes get installed & next Monday Tuesday, the Brembo 350/330 brake kit... & some cosmetic / wheel changes .... :-) :-) I'll update this post with pics soon as I'm able to unlock both my instagram & flicker accounts. Covid19 be damned, it is not going to keep us from living...

Basically the same event, there was a split amongst the organizers, thus the name change. Dan, Matt, Chris & Brian still run this event. Neil runs his event which kept ( copyrighted ) the brand name Avantoberfest. For details you'll have to ask those guys but in short this is some of what I know. Unfortunately I'm also unable to attend this year so I'm licking my despair by installing Brembo 18Z BBK & X-power DP's on the C5 this weekend. ( plus some other maintenance discovered when under the beast... )

Here is my initial post, from another forum, so some of the BB codes (or explanations for those known here) will make sense, but I am not gonna retype it *insert nonexistent laughing emoji here*

So as some of you know, I took this past weekend to go to the Long Roof Rally in the North East. Neither Samantha or I have been to the region during leaf season, and with the cars arrival, it seemed like a great, but safe, way to get away from a hectic year. We left Chicago Thursday morning with a destination of meeting up with Cale DeRoo in Rocherster NY, to have him come with for the first day of the rally. He was bringing my old S4, the BEATR for the drive. We had a nice dinner Thursday night and planned to meet at his buddy's detail shop on the way out of town Friday morning.

Man this thing..... I should never have sold it......

LOVE that Cale kept the name sake going :heart:

After a wash for me and a quick little photo shoot, it was time to hit the road for North Eastern NY.

Cale went on to Hartford CT for the night, but Sam and I got a room at a BnB in a super cute little town, Millerton, NY, for the evening. It is about 5 miles from Lime Rock Park, where the rally was to start the next morning, and had great car spotting.

Among the spots of the evening, this Saab was probably my favorite. Another notable sighting was a slant nose 930. Didnt take any pics, but stared at it for a good 10 minutes and came to the conclusion that I would prefer a normal 930....

Saturday morning led us to the track at about 0745 for a, quick, on track photo shoot. The even organizers kindly asked me if I wanted to join, I happily accepted. Its not too often that you get to go on track for photos.. let alone a track I have played on Forza countless amounts of times. The sun was crazy, so we had to switch around, but we did take pictures the proper way as well. **I suppose this is the best time to note, all of the photos for this post were phone pics. We have over 1000 pics from the weekend that I will go through to find good ones and add to the thread later.**

Among some serious machines. The URS6 next to me has 650HP to the ground, the Silver allroad is an RS5 swap, and tucked in the back is a 1 of 1 Exclusive Nogaro B9 allroad. It was a pleasure to be among such great cars.

We departed Lime Rock and headed north towards Stratton Mountain Vermont. The route was filled with a lot of cars, manly leaf lookers so it wasnt as fun as it couldve been, but nonetheless still a lot of fun. I was running with the Blue URS6 for the drive and let me tell you, that thing was CHOICE. It smelled good behind it, let alone as fast or faster than the RS6. And what a sound. I was left with the feeling that I need one, like soon.... Also with a turbo the size of my head

When we got to Stratton, we had a little parking lot lunch and beer session, talked about the drive (and answered 100000 questions about the RS6, happily) and hung out among each other. At 2000 feet, the views were fantastic, the colors were popping and the photos began  Man. The attention this car attracted (rightfully so, at an avant rally, one of the first ones, yadda yadda) was intense. As always, I am more than happy to let anyone sit, play with, ask questions, pretty much do anythign with my cars. If you are into it as much as I am, you should be able to enjoy it as much as I do. It was so great answering the questions, having people take pics and drool over it. I, semi-secretly was doing the something...

    Untitled by smooremin, on Flickr

Sunday was much of the same. We met at the parking lot again to start on a 200 mile round trip cruise through the mountains, and small, quaint towns of Vermont. Man, let me tell you. As someone who has very limited experiences in New England, this was probably the highlight of our trip. Going through these towns, that have eben around for 250 years, was special. You could see homes that probably have been in the same family for hundreds of years. There is something to get said about that, coming form the Midwest. I love it. We loved it. Add in the colors, and my god, what a day. We finally got a couple of well paved roads, with little traffic were we were able to enjoy them fully. This is a crap video with a lot of wind noise, but it gives you a good idea what we had for a good 75 miles. I will never forget this. What. A. Day.

This B6 avant was one of the organizers, and it was completely built and pulled as hard or harder than the RS6. Again, great people, great cars, great time. What a day.

Sunday even was a party at the LRR house, where we hung out, drank some beers and had some pizzas and just relaxed. It was so great hanging out with everyone, sharing our stories and being fulling engaged with like minded people. The house was amazing, especially with the driveway

    Untitled by smooremin, on Flickr

    Untitled by smooremin, on Flickr

As we were hanging out, one of the photogs (@kieranbuttrick on IG) was playing around with some light painting and got this shot :eek::eek:

    Untitled by smooremin, on Flickr

Watching him do it, makes it more worth it. What a task that is.

I am so fortunate and happy and lucky and whatever else you want to say, to be able to be apart of this group. There is more to the trip that I, again, will show in more photos once I finally get home and decompress and get to our shots. As I sit in this hotel room in Niagara NY I am so happy with the trip. What a time. Both Sam and I loved our time, the chance to see the foliage, to show off the car, to just get away from life. What at trip. Any one in the area, go follow @longroof.rally on IG and you should really go next year. I am planning to. And I am planning on getting the store to sponsor it. Its that good. Do yourself a favor. Find your local group of car people that share you ideas and go be with them. It is worth it in spades. Especially now a days with some much hate and everything, its a good thing to find a group of people that can forget all of that and just take time for their interests.

Cannot wait for next year. What a trip.

@Smooremin super write-up of the event and what makes it so special. I can't express enough how much I appreciated your presence at the event, not only because of your RS6, but because of you. From our Friday night hangs through our unforgettable pulls together on the Sunday drive, I will literally remember the experience forever. It was truly a special weekend.

That spirited romp through those VT country roads on Sunday afternoon with you on my tail is easily my favorite 60 minutes spent behind the wheel of my car and probably ever, in any car. It was surreal, because your RS6 is essentially the incarnated version of what I was longing for and dreaming about 12 years ago when I began building my B6 (because no RS Avant was available in the states). As we diced up the mountain roads for that magical hour on Sunday, a dream of mine was literally being fulfilled in an unimaginable and unexpected way. Your RS6 being the real-life incarnation of what I was dreaming about when I built my car, it was a totally unforeseen opportunity to measure the fruition of my build against the dream-but-now-real-life version of it. Literally, the adult version of the kind of stuff I remember imagining in my head as a 5 year old playing with my matchbox cars.

Surreal is about as close as I can get to describing it.

    Can't wait until LRR 2021!

Looking thru the old YouTube videos I see there's one missing. The one with ll of the aerial drone footage shot above Equinox. Not the one shot in the fog / run tht is currently still up but the other one... Anyone know why it is no longer visible ?
