I have a 2015 Q5 what is the best way/system to upgrade my media/stereo system and not lose any features(i.e. steering wheel button functions)?

Generally most folks end up deciding that it's not feasible to replace the factory Audi head unit system. However, there are a ton of threads around with info on upgrading the speakers, and adding an amp/sub to the trunk, just search the forums. This thread, for example is huge
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...upgrade-thread

At least one member is offering speaker upgrade kits - though you'll have to check to make sure it fits a Q5.

The RSNav or similar units are easily I stalled to replace the factory MMI screen, and will work on pretty much any version with some variations on required installs.

There are a few threads that discuss the RSNav in a lot of detail but I would certainly not say it's not feasible. Took maybe a couple hours to install and then a couple hours of tweaking it to my liking. Using poweramp totally transformed the way the stock system sounds.

Re-reading this now I can see that what I said doesn't really make sense

Yeah rsnav is the way to go.

I suppose what I meant was traditional head unit replacements aren't really a thing. Like the standard 1 din or 2 din size units that most vehicles used don't apply to audis so you need a specific purpose built solution like rsnav.

Ah yeah now I see what you are saying. Yes the days of easy radio replacements are kind of gone with all the tech in these cars now. I did see one that Pioneer made at one point, but I couldn't find it anywhere in the US and it was super expensive anyway.

Thanks guys, I have been eyeing that RSNav system for a while. Just wanna make sure I dont lose any function. I think the rsnav earlier versions had some issues with the steering wheel buttons.

By now a lot of the kinks have been worked out and new features added like completely wireless carplay and Android Auto.

However it would not be accurate to say that RSNAV is completely 100% bug free. There are a couple large forum posts about the current status of rsnav and I think you'll find it in the A4 forum section. The original creator of rsnav posts there frequently to answer questions.

In all, I'd definitely go with this over a "big box" replacement of the oem system from Alpine or Pioneer. Sure they might have a well integrated and developed product but it is not supported and updated like rsnav is and those are more expensive like others have said.

I ordered an rsnav unit just a few days ago so I'm really onboard with the idea. Excited to try it out!

Please update us once you get it installed. How long did it take after ordering RSNAV from China? I want to add the 12.3” for my 14 Allroad....

Yeah for sure, I'll make a quickie post once I get it installed. I ordered the 10" unit along with an HD backup cam and Dash Cam.
As of this morning, I just got a tracking No. from DHL. The package isn't even in DHL's hands yet - it's still awaiting pickup by carrier somewhere in Hong Kong.

Previous experience with shipping items from China tells me it should take about 3 weeks So I'll update you folks on the install sometime around November lol.

Forgot to update here - RSNAV S3 is awesome! Shipping somehow miraculously took just 1 week. There are a LOT of tweaks and settings and it seems daunting at first but after you get it dialed in it's pretty great.

I have the RSNAV S2 10.25" installed in my SQ5 for months now. I can vouch for fast shipping from China on the my S2. It was lightning fast with DHL, it was delivered in less than a week.

Discipulus - question for you. Are you using Apple Carplay with your RSNAV S3? I am using Carplay with my S2 and I have some audio lag issues. Press play/pause music there is a 1-2 second delay in audio response. However audio quality is excellent. Also annoying issue with Siri when composing text messages. The mic picks up the audio from Siri (when Siri says "what do you want to say...") and adds it to my text messages while composing a message. My work around is to turn down my audio sound level in my car speakers to prevent the mic from picking up the Siri audio before I speak my text message. Do you have this issue on the RSNAV S3? Other than that, very happy with my RSNAV S2.

I have not used carplay or android auto because I have a 4G data service on my rsnav. As such, I don't use my phone at all in the car, and operate 100% from rsnav for all media and navigation needs.

When I make an actual phone call however I just pick up the phone and use my hands because everyone tells me they can barely me over Bluetooth on MMI and on Rsnav. . So kind of a bummer that hands free phone calls are useless at this moment but I'm hoping there will be a fix for that.

Damn hand free calling isn't as good with the rsnav eh? I guess I will wait longer lol IT works amazing with the stock unit. This is a huge setback :( I wonder if it's phone specific?

You can still use the RSNAV and maintain the stock Audi bluetooth handsfree functionality with your phone. You just pair your phone with the Audi bluetooth for handsfree (phone only not multimedia/music) and then you can still hookup your iPhone with Carplay (i do this wired).

If you spend time on Daniel's RSNAV youtube channel, he has some videos about it.

Perhaps it's just mine - folks can't hear me very well when I use bluetooth calling from my phone to RSNAV. Perhaps I need to reach out to Daniel for troubleshooting.

^^This, yes. This is my current workaround, I use the old MMI for bluetooth phone calls now since RSNAV doesn't cut it. However, even with the old MMI Bluetooth people still can't hear me very well. Can't tell if it's my phone or just my car with a mic problem.

I am sure you are aware, there is a setting in the MMI bluetooth settings that adjusts your microphone or gain on a call, there is also the same adjustment on samsung phones as well. I do not remember if that function was on my old Iphone 11 but most likely. If you have not tried to adjust that, I would start there.

With regards to another earlier post, you mentioned "Poweramp" is that a specific item or is that just saying that adding a powered amp to the system helps with the RSnav headunit? Curious. I may be getting the RSNav sooner rather than later for my Q5

You just blew my mind - I'll definitely go take a look for these bluetooth volume settings today!

"Poweramp" is an android media player app found in the Google Play App Store. I'm sure there are similar or equal alternatives for both the iPhone and Android platform - the intention here is to use a 'high quality' player that can properly decode and play media files without limiting the source file bitrate in any way. It might only be a small difference but I was trying to provide "best recommendations" and not "mostly good recommendations" haha.

You wonderful human - there is totally a Mic volume setting in MMI.

This solved my Bluetooth phone call issues with the factory system! Still having serious problems with people not hearing me when connecting over rsnav however. I'll contact support for that =).

Looks like you still have plenty of knob to twist. I'm surprised this is an RS issue but hopefully it's sorted by now.
