O2 sensor info if you need to replace

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
If you need to replace your O2 sensors you can buy a lot cheaper by getting them by the Bosch part number rather than the Audi number through Audi. The front sensors are Bosch 17225 and found them at $65 ea at Rockauto, the rears are 16136 and Rockauto was $83, AutohausAZ had them at $79 but I ordered all 4 through Rockauto while I was at it. I would warn about ordering through Ebay or Amazon as there are a lot cheap Chinese counterfeits being sold. I bought some NGK's for my S5 through Amazon and found out they were counterfeit's. NGK has a page dedicated on their website showing you how to see if they are real NGK plugs, Bosch also has a page that has some general info on Bosch parts.
BTW, the dealer wants well over $200 per sensor. I'll update in a couple of days when they arrive as I'll compare the Bosch long part number on the old OEM's against the new parts.

Here you go for the front sensor, confirmed by Bosch. I'll take it in a Bosch box at $68~$75 anyday compared to paying Audi $240.

So I can confirm that Bosch sensor 17225 (long part # 0280017215) is the exact same part for the front O2 sensor, Audi Part # 079906262Q. I ended up getting them from FCP Euro for $116 ea. After two attempts with Rockauto I gave up, they sent me Bosch 17215. It is probably a possible substitute source but it's got a longer lead and I'd rather go with the exact Bosch part and wasn't about to try with Rockauto a 3rd time.

Thank you, Sir, for the part numbers. I realize its been a year, but will ask in case you recorded them for both sensors (pre and post cat) and banks (if different???). It would be a tremendous help to order them for my wife's S5 4.2 liter before I start wrenching on them.

Perhaps you or another can say to replace all four O2 sensors after 100,000 miles if I'm getting Rich mix in front and Lean code post cat in Bank 1. No vacuum leak, it holds full vacuum between starts. Two solenoids and some cracked hose was replaced after a major carbon cleaning. Maybe I chemed them. Lambda correction ends up with adaption of -12 at idle. Sensor voltages still see-saw with 2-second periodicity. Heck, maybe they just need a scrub?

    Knowledge is Power.

    For the CAUA 4.2L V8 in the S5, it's 07L 906 262 K pre-cat and 07L 906 265 F post-cat. It's the same for both banks.
    https://audi.7zap.com/en/usa/audi+a5.../9/906-906000/

    For Bosch OEM catalog numbers, it's 17330 (p/n 0 258 007 330, 310mm long) pre-cat and 16136 (p/n 0 258 010 036, 750mm long) post-cat.
    https://www.boschautoparts.com/en/auto

The CFSA 4.2L V8 in the RS5 uses the same post-cat sensor, but a different pre-cat sensor (Audi 079 906 262 Q ie Bosch 0 258 017 215, 580mm long). The Bosch parts website calls it 17100, a Bosch parts catalog calls it 17215; not sure where 17225 came from.

I'd worry about having the correct 10 digit Bosch part number stamped on it than some short code on a box. The Bosch short codes are a fiasco since Bosch dumped their competent catalog site and went to that new site they run now. The site can't seem to decide if 17100, 17215, or 17225, or even 17330 is the right one for a RS5. 17100 is 910mm long, 17215 is 580mm long, 17225 is not even in the catalog.

The catalog lists the LSU wideband sensors (pre-cat) as 250k km (155k miles) replacement interval and the LSF jump sensors (post-cat) as 160k km (100k miles) replacement interval.

The 17225 I see is now discontinued, see second link. The 17225 has the same Bosch number stamped on it and the same exact lengths as my original upstream O2 sensors in my car that I replaced a year ago. The 17100 is now showing as the replacement. It would be interesting to know if this is just a N. America thing or if the original is still available in Europe. Bosch did the same thing, new number, on the upstream sensors on my older RS6. The sensor looked the same but the wires were about 6~8" longer than the original. I don't see the specs on the wire length for the 17100. I see the catalog lists the S5 & RS5 rear O2 sensors as the same.

These are the 2 Bosch part numbers from my old 2014 Bosch Catalog for the RS5, they are the same part numbers listed on my OEM '13 RS5 sensors below the Audi part #:
    0 258 017 215
    ▲ 0 258 010 036

These are the front/rear Bosch part numbers listed for the CAUA S5
    0 258 007 330

    Re the RS5 engine:

17215 is in the catalog at 22.8"
17100 is in the catalog at 35.8"
That picture of the 17225 looks nowhere near 35.8". It does actually look even shorter than 22.8". Was your original around 16-17"?

When I replaced my front O2 on my 2.0T, the Bosch OEM replacement also had a bit longer cable than the original piece. Had to wire tie it up on the EVAP line to keep it from hanging down on the cat. The 17215 is only listed three times, for the RS4/RS5 CFSA and the A8 CDRA, where the 580m 17215 is used for one side and the longer 680mm 17323 is used for the other side. I suspect over time, they consolidate spare parts to a minimum catalog part count, meaning stocking just a longer cable for more application fit. So the 17225 was dropped and replaced by the 17215 for that application?

17100 is all in the BMW section; think the web site is just messed up.

Curious. https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/0258017215 Same 10-digit part number as what Bosch is calling the 17215, but the web calling it 17225. The pic seems like it would be about that 23".

OEM sensor is/was 22.8" from the tip of the sensor to the tip of the plug which already had a factory tie wrap and a fold in it as it is only about 8" from the plug to where the sensor plugs in. The 17100 would need 2 or 3 folds but as long as it works which I'm sure it does. Bosch must be just simplifying their parts system. Still wonder if an OEM from Audi would be the longer 17100 and/or if the Europeans get the proper length and maybe it's just a N. America thing? My car has new sensors (17225) with about 3~400 miles on them so it should be good for quite a few years to come.

Upon closer examination of the OEM original sensor. It has the Audi part # 079906262Q stamped on it and then it has the Bosch part # 0 258 017 215/216

If the original was 22.8", that's how long the 17215 is, so just get that. I mean, that is the short code reflected by the 10-digit part number anyway. I'm still unclear where the 17225 came from, since the catalog has always had the 10 digit part number of "...17215".

Then you get people messing up the short codes like FCP - https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...or-front-17215 The 1010mm 0 258 007 215 is short code 07215, not 17215. But then why is the short code for 0 258 007 330 (the CAUA one) 17330 and not 07330? And why if the catalog PDF shows 0 258 007 215 and 216 as 1010mm 5-wire sensors, are there zero entries for it in the BMW table if FCP is saying they are used on BMWs?

When a company's entire business is based on using the correct part, the phenomenal failures of their product cataloging is mind blowing. So I'd avoid the short codes for lambda sensors and rely only on the real 10 digit part numbers.

Thanks for the part numbers and discussion on cable length. Turns out my local Autozone has the Bosch 17330 for $129 and the 16136 for $106, in stock. A search on the web did not turn up any great deals except ebay, which is a bit dodgy sometimes. I didn't realize Autozone was that competitive on OEM parts and it is nice to actually compare the thing at the counter before purchase. Now I just need to watch a view install videos on youtube to get psyched up

Just for the record, I've got the Bosch 17330 and it agrees with your specification. Two variations of the part number on the box, "0 258 007 330-CP1" above the bar code, UPC code is "028851 17330". Importantly, the item itself has the correct number and is approx. 310mm end-to-end.
