Suspension System Fault! error code light

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello, I have a 2014 Audi A5, I hit a large pothole recently and the Suspension System Fault! came on. Now it comes on every time I start the car. I also noticed it came on once when I went through a touchless car wash when it sprayed underneath. There is no problem with the headlights. I removed both front wheels and noticed on the drivers side there is a wire that has a hole rubbed in it that goes to the shock. Not sure if this is causing the code.

Is there a VAG com scanner that can reset this code and the service due code?

Is this the part - AUDI OEM 08-17 A5 Quattro Brake-Front-Sensor Harness Left 8K1972251E? I do not want to buy something I dont need.

    I'll attach a pic. IMG_3341.jpg

    Thanks,
    Steve

I would say with almost absolute certainty that the chaffed wife is your issue, you confirmed that with the car wash. First try just taping over it to see if it's only the one cable shorting to ground, if it's two cables inside the wire shorting together then it may be a cable replacement required.
No point in erasing codes until you make a repair as they will only pop back up again.

Thanks for the quick reply brother! I will try the electrical tape option first and let you know.

    - Inspect the internal wires and if any of the conductors are exposed in multiple wires. Taping them tight could force a hard ground/short. More than likely a wire is cut and the fault us because of it.

    - Determine what it has been rubbing on. Move it, secure it, tie it back with a ziptie so it does not rub further.

Fix the problem. The wire is obviously damaged. If you clear the code it is just going to pop right back

The apps will only tell you open or short, you can diagnose that without an app. As we said earlier, if it's a single conductor insulation exposed then you've got a short to ground that would probably be intermittent as the suspension moves or permanent if the cable is riding against part of your suspension all the time.

An open would be if the conductor was completely cut through and the electrical component in the damper was no longer being seen.

A short line to line would give the same as an open in that the component wouldn't be seen.

Try the tape first, it's the simplest cheapest option, clear the codes once's it's done. Ideally you'd want to do a permanent fix, I would call tape a temporary fix.

Ok took the wheel off and taped it up, went for a drive and the Suspension System Fault! is still there so I guess I'm buying a cable. Do you know what this cable is called? There is a bar code and a part number on it but I can only partially read it - starts with an 8 and has some 1's and 7's and ends in E I believe.

Is the drivers side the right or the left?

    Sorry for the dumb question!

    Thanks again.

You might want to clear the fault code out, anyone local to you with VCDS or a local garage with a code reader?

Unfortunately no one around here. Will have to pick one up - looking at the Ancel VD500 but prob going to go with the cheapest Ross-Tech one for $199.

Diagnostic error codes are accumulated in electronic control units in the event of malfunctions in various vehicle systems and allow you to uncover the causes of the malfunction. All stored error codes can only be read using compatible diagnostic adapters or scanners. I think this can be helped at https://www.light-it.net. I have already applied there. I myself cannot fully understand this.
