    Water pump union

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Replaced water pump 6-8 months ago. I am having sporadic leaks that started shortly afterwards. Several times it has leaked out of the pump/oil cooler union. Going to replace union with the aluminum one from ECS. Any idea why it would leak on occasion and not all the time? Any thing to watch out for when I pull water pump and replace this time?

Planning on just pulling the throttle body and not the entire intake as we did on pump replacement. Have read here where that will work, true?

Only thing the repair manual mentions is the two o-rings should be replaced and the two o-rings should be coated in coolant before installation.
Install the connection piece into the oil cooler, then push the coolant pump onto the connection piece and then onto the centering pins on the block.

The o-rings are https://parts.audiusa.com/p/48775800/WHT002001.html, and the connection piece (which includes the o-rings) is https://parts.audiusa.com/p/48001637/06H121131C.html

I didn’t know ecs made a metal union, but I’ve never had problems with mine so I wouldn’t of been looking for one

I coated mine with syl glide and the union slipped right in while seating pump. Point is they need to slip in. If part of the o ring " rolls" you will develop a leak.

We did it last evening. Let intake on, just removed throttle body. Worked fine.
