    2015 A4 8K Allroad - ADS with Allroad Mode

So I bought myself the VCDS HEX NET thing which just arrived this past Friday. The main thing that I wanted to do with it was to enable Audi Drive Select.

So I did that and played around with some other tweaks as well. In the Individual mode, I enabled the setting of both the Corning Light and Engine Sound. TBH, I don't know if that actually does anything but it looks cool!

I elected to enable Allroad mode in Drive Select, rather than Auto. I could do Auto with Individual mode, if I wanted. I do have the Traction Control button on my Allroad but that seems to be different than "Allroad" mode in ADS -- I'm saying that because Traction Control will cause the light on the dash but Allroad mode in ADS does not. Again, maybe it doesn't really do anything but it looks cool! Anyone know for sure?

I do know that Dynamic mode seems to result in a quite noticeable change in performance.

The allroads that come with ADS from the factory allowed you to configure the steering effort (and ratio?) as well. I test drove an ADS equipped car and didn't find changing the steering setting to make a noticeable difference. Granted it was almost 2 yrs ago at this point, but I don't recall there being an 'Allroad' mode option.

Does putting it in Dynamic feel any different from just pulling the shifter back to S?

I do think that it feels different in Dynamic mode. Seems to be more punchy at least -- feels different in the throttle.

I would imagine -- pure speculation -- that the Allroad mode... if it actually does anything... would be more geared toward lower-speed, off-road, use.

My 2015 already had ADS, added a couple extra options.

    Steering -Comfort(light), Dynamic (heavy)

Each drive option will change throttle sensitivity as well as transmission shifting.

    Dynamic=sport on the transmission

The most noticeable for me is Efficiency, grabs highest possible gear and dulls throttle sensitivity. That said, it is very responsive to downshifting when you stab the throttle. This mode is all about torque which this engine has, you will rarely see above 4500rpms.

correct me if im wrong, but unless the car is equipped with ADS, enabling with VCDS does nothing.

A test-If you enabled ADS via VCDS and select Dynamic while driving and it drops a couple gears similar to sport then I would say it works.

Allroad and Efficiency, I had also added Race but it would not allow me to select it(greyed out) I believe that only works with DCT and/or sports diff.

From some brief googling, it sounds like the Allroad mode was primarily for the higher end Q models with air suspension.

    https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/...i-drive-select

    https://myaudiq5.com.au/what-does-au...t-actually-do/

Also worth noting is that some SUV models have additional individual settings such as Lift / Offroad, and Allroad which as their names suggest are useful when negotiating rough terrain and varying weather conditions. For example, the Q7 models with air suspension have ride height levels as follows:

    Lift/off road: +45mm
    All road: +25mm
    Efficiency/Comfort: Normal ride height
    Auto / Dynamic: -15mm

That's actually great information COar! I need to read a lot more of that. My little A4 doesn't have much Audi tech but A8 sure does! I'm not gonna tempt fate and change anything on the A8 -- I bought an extended warranty!

But anyway, I figured out what I was doing wrong. Now I have everything but "Race" in Drive Select (including Allroad, Efficiency, Auto, etc). So that's a nice feature.

Now I had been wondering what "Cornering Light" meant... hoping that perhaps my headlights (which do auto self-leveling apparently), would also do Dynamic cornering light(s)!

Yeah, no. What it did was cause a 01771 - Control Module for Headlight Range (J431) code!

So turned that off and that went away. But it left me wondering what it would take to install that feature!

Probably not doable but it will give me hours upon hours of searching and studying to do.

Apparently the Engine Sound thing (soundaktuator in the settings) doesn't hurt anything. Don't know that it does anything either!

You cannot activate dynamic headlights without the hardware.

You can activate fog lights as cornering lights. Note it will only activate the foglight on the side you are turning to and everyone will tell you that one of your foglights are out.

    haha. So true!

Yes, the cornering lights require AFS headlights.

I quite like the Dynamic mode. It sharpens throttle, gives more resistance to the steering, and keeps higher gear for longer and even around town keeps it one gear lower than in the other modes. I think Comfort would be pretty close to Efficiency.

I wished we had adaptive suspension too, but it wasn't an option in NA.

I'm pretty sure that I have AFS headlights. I think there is some other hardware necessary for the cornering lights. That is what I was wondering about installing.

OK, I'm confused between auto-leveling and AFS. Maybe I don't have AFS but the option is selected in the VCDS report (and I didn't do that!). But maybe that isn't the best way to tell.

Here's the part that is confusing me. If I use the Audi VIN decoder it says that I have "cornering lights". Is that a different thing then?

I finally found a reliable PR decoder. The only two codes that seem relevant are these:

PRCode: 8EH = Bi-functional headlight with gas discharge lamp for driving on the right(US design)
PRCode: 8Q3 = Automatic headlight-range adjustment dynamic (self-adjusting while driving)

    EDIT!

I did some research and I found out what I need to retrofit cornering lights onto my 2015 A4 Allroad. First, I found a PR code summary and found all the related codes:

    8Q0 without headlight-range adjustment
    8Q1 headlight-range adjustment
    8Q2 automatic headlight-range adjustment static
8Q3 automatic headlight-range adjustment dynamic (self-adjusting while driving)
8Q4 headlight-range adjustment, automatic- dynamic with cornering light
8Q5 headlight-range adjustment, automatic- dynamic with cornering light (AFS 1)
8Q6 headlight-range adjustment, automatic- dynamic with cornering light and turn signal light (AFS 1)

    8Q7 headlight-range adjustment

Clearly, you need one of the 8Q4, 8Q5, or 8Q6 codes listed to have the feature. OK, so I don't. Now, I have found out a way to do it. I would need two things:

    1. A pair of Bi-Xenon/LED Adaptive Headlights (~$2500 for a pair)
    2. Auto-leveling headlights retrofit kit (~$550)

So for roughly $3K, I could retrofit that feature... just to answer my question... in case anyone else is interested.
