Keeping my fingers crossed for a a decent 22” winter tire option here in the US too.

Restarting this thread. Tire Rack has had two winter tire options for the 22” wheels.
Continental Wintercontact TS 860 S for $408 each or the Pirelli P Zero Winters for $665 each.

I spoke with a tire rack rep and they expect more in October. My car is at port in Jacksonville and just waiting on a hold for all MY22 to be removed so I have some time but may jump on one of these before they are sold out.

I ordered the TS 860S late last week. I was holding out for the Vredesteins, but just wasn’t comfortable waiting much longer — snow will be hitting the high country before too long.

Thanks for this. Wow, what a price difference. Is the Pirelli that much better?

Any other options as of now? Nice to at least see a couple full winter tires available.

How about options for 21" wheels. Makes more sense for me to drop down in size for winter, get more pothole protection rubber!

there are a few options, but a number of us are running the 21" B8 SQ5 wheels. They can be found used pretty reasonably on here and other places. Plenty of all season / winter tires that fit them. They sit pretty tucked due to a conservative offset and only being 8.5" wide, but they clear the ceramics, even without a spacer. I run a 15mm spacer on mine...

Hi all, looking at the SQ5 21" option for winter setup as well. I like the narrower tire for the snow and more sidewall.... In getting spacers (would like 25mm), do I just need to make sure to get 5/112 and 66.5 hub diameter? Anything else special? Anyone have recommendations on where to buy these and longer lug nuts? Thanks in advance!

That's right, you'll need R14 ball seat lugs for the SQ5 wheels (R13 for most other models). I was only able to find them at Achtuning https://www.achtuning.com/h-r-14mm-d...bolts-10-pack/ they were very knowledgeable.

Spacers I got at ECS already just be aware their "kits" do not have the R14 lugs even though they say they fit. I got 17.5 mm which most closely keeps the suspension geometry, but it is tucked a bit. 25mm should be a nice fit.

As as aside, my 255/45/21 Vredsteins rode slightly better than the stock 22s but the winter tire tread road noise is noticeably higher. Also down about 1 MPG.

I'm glad to see this car works in the snow. I bought mine to drive all year. However, now that it is in my possession, it is so nice, rather than change the 22" summer tires, I'll just not drive it through the snow and crap this first year.

Did anyone else with SQ5 wheels know this? That's a first I'm hearing about them using r14, looked it up and seen a few posts on q5 specific boards about this as well. I got SQ5 wheels for winter ready(tested them with the RS6 lugs) to go but now curious if I should order a new set of r14s

Yes, the SQ5 wheels absolutely use R14s. I've owned an SQ5 since 2013 and, unfortunately, this debate always occurs. For some unknown reason, Audi switched to an R14 for those wheels (and a few others) during that time frame. Will an R13 work? Sure. Is it the right lug? No.

Achtuning should be able to hook you up with an R14 set in the correct length.

Audi uses R14 ball seat for their CUV/SUV with a 30mm thread length vs R13 ball seat and 27mm thread length for their cars.

Hi Martin, do you have 20mm spacers for this?

Hey man! I was wondering what did you end up buying all and all? And why do we need spacers?! Looks? Performance?

And are you running 255s or 235s? Different charts... some say 235... some 255..

    Thanks :)!

I got the SQ5 set up with 255/40 Vredestein Wintrac Pro with 15mm spacers(some go 20+ for a more flush look), Spacers help push them to OEM offset as they are really sunken in the fender by themselves(and looks a bit odd)

There are a few examples in the lower pages of the 15mm spacers and higher. The size is just personal preference of looks

The sq5 21's are 2 inches narrower and 15mm higher offset, those combined result in the outside face of the wheel being situated over 40mm (or an inch and half) deeper in the wheel wells then the stock wheels if you bolt them on without spacers. They fit but cosmetically it looks like a narrow gauge rail car.

just read through this entire thread - awesome info in here, thanks to all for sharing their experiences and insight!

These look great - thanks for sharing Hokiekrash!
Thanks for your post - i'm now on the fence between the Vossen HF-3 and the Vossen VFS-2.

    HF-3 has 10 spokes, the VFS-2 has 15.
I like the HF-3, but my hesitation is the space in-between the spokes, for the reason of snow build up in the wheel wells.
Hokiekrash, did you experience w the HF-3 any snow accumulating in the wheel well and throwing off the tire balance?

I can't see what the E## offset is on the Vossen site, but I notice you say your HF-3 @ 21x10.5 is E14.

You also mention Vossen goes from E9 thru E14 & L0U said that the net difference given your tire selection, is net zero.
What aspect of the tire measurement makes the net difference zero in the E##?

I'm looking at getting the 21x9 wheels. Ideally - given what a few others have said here, I'd want the wheels just SLIGHTLY tucked under the fender to avoid slush on the side of car. What should i look out for there?

THANKS everyone for insight, if there is any to share with my post here, please keep me posted - for lack of a better word!

Got my winter setup finished for now

    255/40 Vredestein Wintrac Pro
    OEM SQ5 wheels
15mm spacers(will probably move to 20-25 to improve the look)

Got the set on right before a minor storm and had to drive on a 2-3inch unplowed highway. These did amazing so far on my experience and made the RS6 a tank in the snow.
    Will update on worse weather!

Any recommendations for a good tire shop in NYC that deal with performance vehicles? Ideally in/near Long Island City, Queens. Have my (Audi AO) winter tires ready to swap over but dealer won't swap them because I didn't buy tires from them :-/ plus previous time I asked, the service dept guy told me I'd be better off taking it to a place in Queens anyway :-D

Winter setup installed late last week. Managed to snag a set of 22” OEM RS7 wheels wrapped in Continental rubber.

Loving the hyper silver finish next to sonoma green.

function over form sometimes for the winter, especially if you're going to be using the quattro as intended in the snow, skiing, etc.. is the car lowered? doesn't look like it in the pic, but all set for winter mode for sure!

You could go totally skinny, inset mode like me,

    Here’s a couple more.

Got from Martin at nemesis. Shipped to dealer for mount and balance when I picked it up last November.

I ordered a bit ago so I would wait for a response from Martin on price, very pleased and they did come to me mounted and balanced.

I just finally figured out my winter setup after lots of learning about offsets, and tire sizes.

I'm in Vancouver. Dealer quoted me $4k for the winter TIRES only..i lol'd at that..
There was one set of winter wheels/tires left @ audi downtown that I passed on that was $5400, (the 21" OEM).

    I ordered Vossen VFS-2 21" in gloss black, 9.5" width with a 5 offset.
Speaking with Vossen, on a 9.5" wide wheel, 5 offset is the highest offset on a 9.5" Vossen wheel that clears the calipers on our cars. Going with a 9" width won't really work for some engineering reason. See offset comparison to stock below.

Converting to CAD, buying direct from Vossen was like $4800 CAD.
    I got them through a Canadian Vossen Dealer, del'v @ $3300.. sweet.

Then for tires, I did a bunch of comparisons on what would look and work best and ended up getting Continental XTRM in 255/40. They were $2,100 CAD.
So all in, about the exact same price as the dealer wheels, which i didn't like nearly as much, and these are better tires too.

Can anyone comment on the sensors needed for the winter wheels? Any lines on where/how to get em?

Here is a little excel thing that I made to help convert the wheel & tire stuff

I used wheelsize.com calculator to double check some things, clearances etc.
Should be about 5 weeks to get wheels made, maybe mid Jan I'll have em on and post a couple pics when they are
    Rock n Roll!
