    Question 01E 6 Speed Transmission Fluid and Diff Change

    I watched this tutorial on how to change the transmission, center diff, and rear diff fluids.

    The guy skipped the part where you fill the center diff so my question is where is the fill plug on the center diff?

    Or does the fill hole on the transmission also fill the center diff?

    Ive done my research on what fluid to use and the safest, from what I've read is OEM. Any thoughts on what fluid to use?

    Is the viscosity level on the transmission, center diff, and rear diff all the same?

    Thank you for your guys input.

    Front diff, gearbox and center diff have all same oil. Center diff doesn't have a fill hole. Just drain all and refiil and you are done.

    OE fluid is fine---Audi recommendation - Both trans and rear diff---
    SAE 75W-90 PN G00 500 0 GL5 Synthetic
    IMHO a better gear oil is what was mentioned in Justin's video----
    FUCHS TITAN SINTOFLUID SAE 75W-80(synthetic) GL5 Fluid
    * TRANNY and Center Differential
    (2) Drain Plug- tranny and diff
    (1) Fill Plug-Drivers Side
    10mm HEX, 40 N-M, 2.9L capacity
    As others mentioned- there is no separate fill for the center diff---the oil will flow into the center diff. That's one of the reasons the vehicle needs to be level when filling.
    * Rear Differential
    (1) Drain Plug and Fill Plug- Pass Side
    same tool, 1.9L capacity + 50grams of MoS2 (LIQUI MOLY p/n 2019)
    The LIQUI MOLY can be found at Amazon--DONOT add this to the tranny.

    meh, i put 200ml of MoS2 in my trans a couple years back. No issues and it helped with shifting.

    THANK YOU FOR CLARIFYING! I will be getting this done asap. Shops want to charge over $800 for labor. Seems like a pretty simple job.

    That is Very high.

    Remember, always loosen the fill plug before the drain plug.... if you cannot get the fill plug out, you’ll never get the fluid in.

    It’s a really simple job and it takes longer to lift the whole car up level than to change the fluids :)

    The guy??? Anyways... fill center diff from front trans fill hole. As other have said, remove fill plugs first. Don’t rush the job, take your time. You can use the same fluid front and rear.....unless you are running LSD or something to that nature.

    01E 6 Speed Transmission Fluid and Diff Change

    Ordered my fluids from ECS tuning a few days ago, gonna run fuchs titan sintofluid 75-90 gl4 in the trans and center diff, ordered 3L and gonna just fill to top, I believe it takes 2.7-2.9L.Also gonna run motul gear300 75-90 gl5 in the rear diff, I believe it takes 1.8L.

    Well I guess referring to the person who made the youtube video as "the guy" can be inaccurate specially during the times that we live in now.

    He could be a tree for all I care. Or might disguise as a male but want to be labeled as female.

    LOL a tranny working on a tranny...
    It’s not PC thing. “The Guy” in the video is jballou aka Justin Ballou the commenter above. You can thank him for his useful videos and commentary. I know I have found his videos to be extremely helpful. Thanks, Justin.

    Oh hey Justin!! Love your videos! By the way, have you ever done a video where you replace the rear guide rods on your B5? Or remove a seized brake line in the rear? 🙂👍
