    What you love and hate?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I wanted to ask other owners the things you love and hate about your car that are "unusual". We all expected them to be fast and look great... So those don't count. Share the things you discovered after ownership that weren't immediately obvious.

    Love:

    Hatch Space
    Audi Sport puddle lamps
Cornering lights (didn't even know these existed)
    Cargo net

    Hate:

    No hatch wiper
    Ingress/egress, or maybe I'm just old/lazy
    Lack of heated steering wheel
    Plastic door panels
Drying the GD front grill after a wash

This car is a perfect match for what I want, but to be absolutely perfect...

    Love:
Seat randomly adjusting the lumbar so I don’t get achy in the same position

    Hate:
No a/c seats. My Q7 has them. Amazing during the summer
No revs with exhaust valves open in neutral
Center pocket is about 1/8” too small for my iphone to fit with the lid slid closed

Ooooh I forgot about the lack of neutral revs. That's a good one.

I have to agree, it checks all of the boxes for me.

Love: I have yet to see another like mine on the road. I know they're out there somewhere, but I haven't seen one yet.

Hate: I would really like ventilated seats. Black on black in the summer heat is really hot.

Love: unique engine, low production/ exclusivity, looks like an R8 from certain angles, interior, easy tuning potential

Hate: quality control (rattles- I could be an exception but I get a lot of Volkswagen vibes in the quality department), stock wheels are terrible (aesthetically and functionally), no one knows that the car is upwards to $80,000 (everyone is surprised the sticker on my car was 80k- like the car should be 40-50k)

Too many to list for love so just the hate...

    Hate
    One cup holder
Wireless phone charger is too small to fit modern phones
    Lack of ventilated seats
    Lack of head up display
That I have to tell the sport valves to be open when I switch the transmission back to drive from sport
Android auto cannot display next to sport display
Headlights don't track, only corner lights
Listening to Bluetooth music and pass over external audio, Bluetooth music stops playing
Lack of center screen like RS3 (Backup camera blocked by wheel when turning)
    Low quality backup camera
Cannot lift up windshield wipers without hitting them on hood
Red design interior comes with ugly red seat side panels and center console panel
    Lack of auto high beams

The car is a blast to drive, gets attention, and gets pretty good fuel economy. I was willing to compromise on a bunch of things to have this car. I just didn't realize how many things were either missing or not up to the standard I thought they should be. I have had two BMWs, neither of them would I consider the higher end or super nice but they had nicer features.

Neutral rev works fine for me, pops and crackles too, valves are open

2018 factory ecu for what it's worth

after going into neutral the valves will hit comfort mode , i've noticed this so i switch back to dynamic and rev fine, stops me at 4k though

RSpeeds, there is a wiper service level function you can enable but I believe it requires coding.

Sirsycott, are you able to Rev freely or does the car limit at like 3k?

I agree a lot on the interior finish. I thought the inside of my car was nice, as I was coming from a fiat 500 abarth... But then I bought my wife a macan and now the interior of my car feels pretty pedestrian.

Speaking of interior, that reminds me of another one - no sunglass holder. Small detail I know, but I'd love to have one.

FWIW the TTRS has the same features a sports car or super car have. That is what it intended to be. R8/Huracan for example lack all of those features as well. Even though the huracan evo has a touch panel for its switch gear now, but it’s just for buttons. The RS3 does almost everything on your list minus the hud. I’m not being mean or critical just pointing out what the car is and isn’t

Same here although then the issue becomes do your sunglasses even fit in the holder? I have had 2 pair that I liked but do not fit in the holder in my Golf R, so it's like not having one anyway. lol

    Loves:

#1 - The color, the way it stands out, the way people come up to me at the fuel pump and say "Hey man, that is a nice car......what is it?"

#2 - The E85 tune that turns it from an intense little rocket ship into a neck snapping hyperspace blur leaving a plaid streak behind it.

    Hates:

#1 - Black optics package being half-assed forcing me to spend an additional $1000 to get proper blacked emblems and fuel door.

#2 - Stupid drilled brake rotors with spongy pads that burned out at 10k miles, and a fair amount of track time if I'm honest but still. This is an RS, "racing" is in the name. Thankfully a proper setup was actually cheaper than the replacement OEM stuff, but still $2500 I could have spent elsewhere.

#3 - The shift paddles stuck on the steering wheel instead of on the column in a static location like they should be.

None of that matters when I'm behind the wheel though, giant smile covering my face and feeling the fizz gland about to explode.

    Loves:

#1 - Color - I built my car with the blue interior and turbo blue exterior and I can’t believe it was a $0 add on because they nailed the color in my opinion. Blue being my favorite color, I was also excited to get the blue interior and what led me to buying a new car. Everybody that comments on my car also loves the color.

#2 - Performance/modifiability - I think everybody knows how capable these cars are right out of the box, not to mention when you start modifying them even just a little bit.

#3 - Sound - I used to drive a V8 and even I think this engine sounds epic even with the stock tune/exhaust.

#4 - Versatility - I love being able to drive this thing on the edge to the store, fill the back with a considerable amount of cargo, and drive it home in comfort mode.

#5 - Technology - I realize this doesn’t have everything, but coming from a 2004 S4, I appreciate all the nice features that I now have in this car, especially the digital dashboard. Being able to switch the views depending on how you’re driving and having the GPS integrated into it is so cool in my opinion, but only because they designed a beautiful interface. I was never a fan of digital dashes before, but this won me over.

    Hates:

#1 - Interior plastic - I realize our cars aren’t too of the line luxury models so there’s of course going to be some plastic, but I felt like it was a bit over done. Not to mention the plastic parts scuff super easily and if you’re not careful, it’ll be permanent. I scuffed up the back of my seats a little bit and it won’t come out. The edge of a cardboard box hit it, that’s it.

#2 - No center infotainment screen - I’m not sure what they were thinking when they did this I’m the TTRS and R8. Audi acts like they’re doing is a favor by not adding it if you read the descriptions on their website, but I feel like they’re just cheating out here. The passenger kinda gets the short end of the stick too as they don’t get a screen to look at.

#3 - Wheels/tires - I thought the wheels were pretty ugly, but not the biggest deal since I always go custom. Not sure what was up with the garbage tires but those were definitely a fail.

#4 - Brakes - I felt they performed decently for the street, but needing new rotors and pads in less than 10k miles is stupid, I don’t care how aggressively you drive.

#5 - CarPlay - Sounds like there’s a fix out now but I’m waiting to go back in to get it when I get my driver seat replaced on warranty. That being said, it’s been over a year since I bought the car and it has never actually worked. Even when it did work, I felt like it was a half-assed integration, so I probably will continue not using it. What’s the point of having a wireless charger in your car if you need to plug the thing in to use CarPlay too? All around fail in my opinion.

#6 - Paddle Shifters - The stock paddle shifters are definitely a joke with how small they are. For now I’m using the bolt on style but will eventually upgrade to something that replaces the whole mechanism because the usability kind of sucks with my aftermarket paddles since you can’t get a shift pushing from every spot.

Currently driving a stock '19 TT RS.
    Here's my list:

    Love:
    • The POWER. 0-60 in 3.6s. Smoking vulgar assholes in Dodges.
    • Great handling — it sticks to the road like crazy, no drama, just sweet tight turns no matter the weather (I'm not interested in drifting).
    • Great cockpit:
      • Ergonomics in general are better than any other car I have ever driven.
      • Great instrument cluster, with just the info that I need presented in a way that is clear and concise.
      • Seats are really comfortable and very adjustable, comfortable even for very long drives
      • No stupid touch screens!
      • Climate controls are intuitively designed
    • Great looks inside and out.
    • Storage space with seats down is actually MORE than my wife's Subaru Impreza wagon! Lot's of room back there for the dog.
    • Effective backup camera / radar
    • Fit & finish are excellent
    • I test drove the M2 and the 718 Cayman S too, and ended up buying the TT RS - it has just the right balance of performance, driving experience, comfort and price.
    • GREAT experience with my dealer, who is a real mensch.

    Hate:
    • There are missing features that cannot be ordered on a TTRS in the US. These are all available on lesser cars (including some on the lower spec TT models):
      • No matrix headlights
      • No high beam assist
      • No adaptive cruise control
      • No active lane assist
      • No automatic braking / collision avoidance
      • No front camera / front approach assist
      • No traffic sign / signal recognition
      • myAudi app doesn't really do anything on TTRS because the car doesn't have the necessary gateway module
    • Only one usable cup holder, and it's in a location that interferes with my arm when using the gear shift lever. The thing in the storage compartment is useless, because then I cannot use it as a storage compartment.
    • Entertainment system switches from external input (e.g. Android Auto) to Bluetooth if switch the display passing over Bluetooth.
    • Android Auto / Apple Carplay cannot be displayed when using the sport display
    • Stupid fake vents in the rear (added in the Mk3 facelift)
    • US edition doesn't include with the emergency/safety items that are standard in other countries (I had to order these parts aftermarket):
      • No safety triangle
      • No high-visibility vest
      • No first-aid kit
      • No fire extinguisher mounted below passenger seat

    Meh:
These are things that I wish were better, but aren't quite hate...
    • Glove box is too small
    • Phone box is too small to fit larger phones
    • Need more cargo tie-down points toward the front for when the rear seats are folded down
    • If opening doors after a rainshower water dribbles into the car
    • It would be nice to have ventilated seats
    • No auto start/stop on TTRS (I know I'm weird, but I want this, because I occasionally get stuck in traffic that is more stop than go).
    • Would rather have a leather steering wheel than alcantara
    • Wireless Android Auto / Carplay would be nice
    • Either give us a spare tire, or make the cargo compartment larger. Don't fill up the space with a stupid styrofoam insert!
    • Wheels that come with Black Optic package are not symmetric; on the right side the triangles point in the direction of rotation, on the left they point in the reverse. There should be separate left and right version of these wheels! (yes, I am a bit OCD)

    Great comments!

    Love:

    - cool factor
    - performance
    - cockpit
    - etc

    Hate (dislike rather than hate):

    - Can’t seem to find a good angle for the A/C vents

    - ABS parts outside but carbon inside (Front splitter could have been carbon)

    - non asymmetric wheels

    - too quiet (compared to my R8 + is like driving a Cadillac). Needs a bit more “raw” factored in

    - vented seats

    - front camera

I have Carplay on the R8, eTron, our large American SUV and it sucks on all. It’s an Apple thing not Audi.

    This is my 2nd TTRS, 1st one was a 2018 Dynamic+.

    Pros:

    I love everything about it

    Cons:

No Dynamic+ option on the facelift models

I wish the phone box was bigger for wireless charging, I have a pro max and it doesn't fit.

I’m poking around researching a solution. Both my sons are in LA now and my wife doesn’t drive the car (her choice) so I have the opportunity to customize a non sliding seat just for me.

Cannot lift up windshield wipers without hitting them on hood
When you turn the car off, BEFORE opening a door, hold down on the wiper stock for 3-5 seconds. This puts the wipers up in service position. This has been a default on Audis for a long time.

The passenger kinda gets the short end of the stick too as they don’t get a screen to look at.
It makes the dash so much cleaner to not have the center screen, especially with how the industry is implementing center screens now. The screen in like the Merc CLA is god awful, looks like an iPad stuck on a cheap mount. The A4 is not much better. BMW still seems to have their design on most cars less intrusive at least for now.

Truthfully the VirtualCockpit is so amazing (although there is room for improvement on selecting what is displayed together) I would be pissed if they had stuck a center screen in.

Yeah, there are many reasons not to get the first year/design of a vehicle and this is one of them. But for the TTRS I didn't care, I was ready for a new car and just wanted it NOW. LMAO

In fact my opinion on the black emblems is that Audi made it great! And they looked at what users want in/for their cars. This happened first with many automakers who started giving the option of black optics o sport cars, since the users where not happy with chromed details on their cars. And I say that Audi made it great with the black badges since I don’t recall any other brand doing this so far.

In Oregon we don't pump our own gas. The gas station attendant tried to lift them up to clean my windshield and hit the hood.

That is helpful information though, thanks for sharing. This is my first Audi.

Didn’t see anyone mention it but I love having blind spot monitoring on the TTRS. Neither of my R8s had them.

Interesting .. i guess we dont have that here lol. But can you request or decline windshield cleaning? Id tell them no thanks lol. Same with taking car to dealership for service, i always make sure that they dont wash the car since its usually complimentary.

Its nice in the winter when I don't need to get out of the car. Most stations only pump gas. I think this guy just likes my car.

I live a little out of town and I hit a TON of bugs while driving so its nice to have them cleaned between washes. I did let him know that he shouldn't lift them and to only wash from the wipers up.

Recently picked up a CPO '18

Love just about everything except what others have mentioned in earlier posts. So much more enjoyable to drive than my previous F80 M3.

    CONS

    1) Forced to use the extra cup holder in the center rear as the other is too small to hold any decent sized coffee mug.

    2) Black emblems cost me about $200. Why Audi supplies chrome with the black optics pkg is beyond me.

    3) 20" wheels are not the best looking. Getting mine powder coated silver as I dislike the two tone look.

    4) OEM front rotors on this '18 model are a joke, very small cooling veins. Anyone considering tracking this car like myself will require to drop 1500-2000 on rotors & pads

    5) Side door panels are on the small side.

I have learned to be careful. I always open the cargo hatch slowly, so that the drips will end up in the channel. It took several months before I managed to train myself to do that...

On top of what others wrote (2017 TTs):

I love it so much, but my look back and smile EVERYTIME I walk away from it says it all.

    - Embarrassing vent/cooling to the front brakes (especially if you track the car). This is a Sport Car!
    - Android Auto view, not using the whole screen, just a small square.
    - With a sticker of ~$60k, and No Adaptive Cruising / Front Camera / No automatic braking / collision avoidance etc. WTF?
    - No Moon/Sun Roof (I just loved my Mk7 GTi one, and yes, of course I realize there is not space...)

Wow. I'm sorry to hear man. In my opinion, you shouldn't have such a car and dislike that much about it. You should trade it in or sell
it and get something that you love for that kind of money. The whole idea of having a TT/TTS/TTRS is to love it and have fun.
I own a 2018 TTS, I love mine! Yes, there a few things that could be better. But I am absolutely happy with my TTS. I'm so thrilled everyday, best present I could have given myself so far!
Don't ever spend 50-70k and be unhappy. Not for that kind of money. Get something that you love.

I'm just thorough is all. I do love my car but I don't think the price point is quite right. There are a handful of things that I think should have been added. It was up to the new M4 or this car. Although I think the M4 will outperform my TTRS, it wont look as good.

Those things have no place on a high performance sports car. Leave those for the people who want to sit back and read a paper while driving. These cars are meant to be ENJOYED, not set to cruise control behind some idiot who keeps slowing down and speeding up. LOL I would also hate to have another 50lbs of useless nanny cameras and sensors added to the front end plus the weight of all the computers to run them.
