    Audi A4 B9 Exhaust Cutout?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone have any experience with a valved exhaust cutout such as the one by ECS? : https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...pdk=AAAABgQEAg
I believe this cutout can get me the best of both worlds (loud when I want and quiet when I want) versus spending extra money and messing around with the exhaust system until I find the right sound. I am currently running a front res delete and am looking for more noise.

I have an ebay cutout, it works well enough considering the cost ($50) I used clamps to hold in place but right now I only have it mocked up with flexible piping from Autozone. I cut my resonator closer to the hanger near the transmission so I could clamp the resonator back on if i ever wanted. The ebay one leaks a little but it's noticeable when you put your hand against the valve. Here's basically what mine sounds like without the turbo whistle because I have the stock cat.

Oh got it man thanks so much! How loud would you say it is when its open (1-10). Also, when its open it bypasses both of the resonators as well as the mufflers correct? Meaning that it's basically a cat-back straight pipe? Thanks!

Yup, bypasses both mufflers and resonators. I ran the wire through underneath some of the undertrays to the front wheel well then through the bottom front fender into the door. It's all temporary right now till I get an actual pipe to attach the cutout to. When it's open it's a 10 because it dumps right underneath middle of the car. It's very loud and shakes everything especially the shifts which kinda obnoxious. I love it though, the difference in throttle response is very noticeable with the valve open and JB4/E30. The car in the Instagram link is IE Stage 2 with the crackle tune and ECS Hi-Flow Cat.

Aren't they really strict about exhaust noise in Cali? I don't know if a cutout like this is a good idea there.

Oh ok got it man thanks! Yeah it seems like its gonna be obnoxiously loud when its open, basically a cat-back straight pipe lol. Not sure that it's the best option for me though you can turn it on and off when needed. Thanks for the info tho, u got a sweet build!

Yeah it seems like this might be a good idea anywhere XD. JK, in all seriousness tho its personal preference and I don't want anything too loud. IMO Cali isn't too strict where I live though it does depend on the area. There's plenty of "loud" cars in my area with obvious modified exhausts, no one I know has actually had problems with their overly loud exhausts. As long as you don't drive crazy, even if you have a loud exhaust, you'll be fine in my experience.

Yeah I'm looking to do something like that, I'm gonna purchase some turbo rear mufflers or something like that to get a better sound given that I already have a res delete.
