    Rotors dented

Local indy hammered dents in my rotors while doing my wheel bearings.

Had both of my front bearings done today. Normally a job I would do myself. Work has been nutty lately and I decided I would let the local indy shop do it.

They were closed before I got out of work. And Ive used them before for a few things. So I trusted them enough to pay by phone and picked up the car later. Got home and inspected closely to find hammer dents all over my rotors. The passenger has 7 dents. The driver has 1. What mechanic would think it OK to hammer rotors like that.

Anyways. Going there tomorrow to see what I can get done. But I wouldn't want them to put on some cheap rotors. So Ill probably drive on these a bit while I wait for a set to come in that I order. What you guys think? Should be OK to ride on them for a few days right.

Yeah, should be ok for a while. How's the pad life? Keep an eye on them you should be good.

I'd be livid, last time I ever went their for work.

They make big rubber mallets just for shit like this, wtf.

Make them replace them OEM Audi and don't look back.

    Sorry man that's sucks.

On a positive, rock those dimpled rotors for FREEEEEE!!!!

Pads are good. 3/4 life still. I did rotors and pads. Then did pads again just this spring. So this is 2nd set of pads for these rotors.
The next set of pads I would be doing rotors again. But that wouldn't have been for quite a while yet.
I had a feeling I should have did it myself. Should have went with my gut.

Yeah, lol. They are pretty deep dents. No way they can say oh I didnt realize I damaged it.

I was worried about a pad edge catching an edge of a dent and tearing huge chunk off or something. Ill just have to take it easy

I dented my passenger side rotor pretty good when I did my wheel bearings. Damn thing wouldn’t budge, so I feel their pain lol. Anyway it’s been on my to do list to replace but a low priority, waiting to figure out a front brake upgrade plan. It is original to the car and I’ve put 10k miles on it since, so you should be fine as long as the pad edge doesn’t catch like you said. And I’m not saying this as if you shouldn’t go back to the shop, just as an FYI.

they should have used an air hammer on the inner ring of the rotor, instead of just beating the friction surface with a hammer. I would make them replace the rotors.

They close at noon today so I called instead of going in person. The owner was like hold on. Heard him asking someone in the backround if they hammered the rotors and I couldnt hear the response. Then he comes back and says do mean the hub? No the actual face of the rotor right on the pads riding surface.
So he says bring it in Monday and theyll see what they can do.
