Transmission sounds like straight cut gears?

    Hey Everyone!

Having some car trouble and was hoping someone might be able to help!

Had a seal go on my transmission on a long drive and blew it. I got a replacement trans out of a parts car from a friend who has one, after putting it and driving it makes this loud whining sound. It's loudest under load and most noticeable in 2nd gear but can be heard in all gears. It sounds like a car with straight cut gears but much quieter. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Maybe front diff bearing?

same thing happened to that trans. Your gears or bearings are toast.

Wow, was gonna say it could be tire noise, but figured you've already set it in neutral and coasted at the same speed, then put it back in gear to get the sound again.

One way, it sounds pretty cool. In another, you could be driving on a roached transmission. You changed the fluids and everything in the tranny, right?

That thing is hurt. Wouldn’t be surprised if there were some chipped teeth in there.

Yep. When my 2nd gear went it sounded just like that and was missing teeth. Only a matter of time until you completely lose it, so stop driving on it until you can get it repaired. You can drain the trans fluid first and check for metallic particles. That trans most likely had some hard ass launches on it though...

My Audi A4 did the same thing. It made a whining noise (most distinct in first) essentially the entire life of the car without ever getting any worse. I just drove the car until it died.
