Anybody done an MTM ECU upgrade to their 2.9T

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I picked up an S6 and they aren't very chatty over there. Has anybody flashed their 2.9 yet? Looking at reliability (which Audi won't tell me) and drivability. I just got out of a bad relationship with a modded Lexus and they shop never got the tune right. I contacted MTM and they said they would put my name out there to guys who already did it but so far nothing...

MTM is a leading tuner in Europe, you just wouldn't find as many MTM tuned cars here in the USA, their prices are high but that shouldn't be a problem, you are a big baller with a 2020 S6. There are a lot of videos on YouTube with the MTM and ABT tunes on the 2.9TT. Based on what I seen on the videos MTM seems like a very reputable company. If I were you though, I would give APR a try, you live in the USA and APR has a terrific customer service with money back 30 trial so that would be my pick.

I live just up the street from you, in Erie. Love the restaurants/breweries in downtown Lafayette.

Anyway, I went with APR for my RS5 and have been very pleased. I'd definitely recommend it.

Missed Cars and Coffee last week, will try in September. Perhaps we can link up before then for a comparison on some dark Boulder County street!

APR wasn't advertising for the S6 yet and though I doubt there is a difference between RS5 and S6 (except for the ballin' part - so true @S3DUDE) I just wanted to see what people thought about drivability. My recent experience slapping a supercharger on a Lexus produced lots of additional power but the transmission couldn't handle it and wouldn't shift. I said I was going to buy fast this time instead of building it but I can't help myself. MTM dealer said:

"However I can guarantee you the drivability is not compromised. This is just a new software so the car should drive like factory with just more power. We put a lot of hard work into making sure this is the case, even when we supercharge the R8s.

As far shifting and TCU, on a Stage 1 level you should have nothing to worry about. It will shift like factory. Only on even higher horsepower builds we need to retune it for the added power, but even then we do very little changes it to make it work."

Sounds good! I've only made it to one Lafayette Cars & Coffee event, last summer when I still had my F80 M3. I need to venture over to one again soon.

My experience with the APR tune has been excellent. Daily drive-ability has only improved. The increased torque is very apparent, especially in the lower RPMs. The improvement can be felt anywhere from 30% - 100% throttle input, and as low as 2k RPMs. The power delivery is also much smoother across the entire power band. The OEM tune has a dip in TQ between 2500-3500RPM and again around 4500RPM. The APR tune cleans that up, immensely.

Unless I'm mistaken, the S6 and RS5 share the same ZF 8-speed transmission. With this in mind, I can say that from everything I've read, this transmission is extremely capable and throwing a bit more power at it isn't going to be an issue. It definitely hasn't been, from my experience.

With all that said, the S6 is quite a heavy car, weighing about 485lbs more than the RS5. So the advertised performance increase of 98lb-ft and 75hp may not feel as "night and day" as it does in the lighter RS5. But it's still going to be a pretty decent bump, regardless. I'm confident in saying you'd be very pleased with it.

Ended up behind an RS5 getting onto 36 at Baseline. Too much of a coincidence so thought I would ask.

Took him a second to realize then he took off. My car is currently de-badged and DRLs off while I decide what I want to do when I grow up. Not quite double the limit but close. Fun stuff.

HGP does all the tuning and part building for MTM. Check out HGP's stuff and you will see the same numbers.

    Hi!

I would be happy to answer yours and everyone questions on the C8 Platform for the S6.
I also think one of our RS5 customer contacted you.

As far as customer satisfaction is concerned. I would make sure anyone who isn't happy with our tune, if they let us know within 30 days we will give them their money back.
