Milltek exhaust on rs7 too loud?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was thinking about getting a new exhaust for my daily. I heard the milltek really brings the car to life when the valves are open. Problem is when pulling into my neighborhood at night or just cruising, I sometimes want a quieter car.

What would you compare the exhaust in comfort mode to? I’ve heard it sounds like a stock mustang gt with valves open

Valves closed in comfort mode is absolutely useless. By useless I mean sounds like a whisper. Especially if you're only going cat back.

No one will hate you at night if you drive in comfort.

My miltek is Catless turbo back. If you're worried about noise... Don't do that lol. Comfort with turbo back will totally be fine for you

No it’s not as loud as mustang. Unless you have downpipes which I don’t have yet ( It will louder than stock downpipes). So far it’s not as loud as I wanted. If you drive under 3000 rpm, it’s not that loud. When you be around mustang guys, Rs7 milltek is nothing, it louder at higher rpm. I have non-res milltek.

    loud is subjective.

stock, i thought was way to quiet.

milltek non-res was....louder, and I feel where it should have been stock. i thought it was more comparable to an benz AMG. you will get crackles at startup. this is the loudest part, and could be obnoxious to neighbors. although i never had any complain, and i leave at 6am. looking back ,this was probly the loudness to stay at.

recently added 3" downpipes with 200cell cats. louder again, by about another 25-50%. its loud enough that immediately on startup at 6am, i try to idle/coast until im around the corner...as to keep my direct neighbors happy.
the crackles are...dare i say...almost obnoxious with engine/trans in dymanic.

I now drive with the MMI sound in comfort when the wife was in the car. and dynamic when i'm alone. i rarely have MMI engine/trans in dynamic anymore.

Sound is subjective. Our cabins do a good job of isolating the outside noises so whichever route you take will be way louder outside than you realize. Milltek have several options when it comes to exhausts and only a few have valves and they are not cheap. From the experience of others in this forum it is probably a bad idea to go with their valved solution as it seems it get stuck after some time. Honestly you might be better with APR. As for volume, for me, I had Millteks with no DPs and no mufflers with a resonated midpipe and it was loud but not annoyingly loud. I went to aftermarket DPs and was unbearable to me. There was so much drone and it was just obnoxiously loud inside and def outside. So I added mufflers and now the drone is pretty much gone and it is very quiet. I think the mufflers will break in a bit and it will get louder over time and I'll welcome a lil bit more noise. Keep in mind I do not have valves.

    I'm like serpex's set up.

I'm always in engine/Tran dynamic (except for times I'm creeping out at 530 or 6am).

I'm stage 2 with TCU tune also. It's perfect for me. Too Loud for someone who doesn't like loud lol. Crackles turn serious heads. Zero drone

Also... Sorry I don't have Instagram. Or twitter. Or Facebook. Or whatever else people have. Probably the only mid 30s person in the world Iike that I know. But I could care less to get them lol.

Not even close. Stock it's muted. Milltek alone non-resonated is how the car should have come from the factory. I have a 2017 R8 V10 Plus with Larini and it makes the RS7 Milltek sound like a kitten. It's quiet. You're fine.

Has anyone had Audi's sport exhaust (in the dynamic package) and then gone to Milltek nonres cat? Nosferatu maybe?

Curious how different it was in that situation. I don't mind my sport exhaust; it pops and crackles enough to scare the crap out of people, and on startup at the gas station, I've startled more than one or two old ladies.

That larini is gorgeous. My Gallardo superleggera has the same V10 with a Supersprint , and although it doesn't snack crackle and pop like my RS , it still makes a stock RS7 sound like a damn turtle dove. Gotta love NA V10s. Dying breed my friend!

I had the OEM exhaust on mine (2018 RS7 Performance) and it was a must upgrade. I also test drove a 2018 (or whatever the current gen is) Mercedes E63S AMG. The Milltek made it sound more like that. If we say the AMG is 100% volume, stock RS7 was around 60% and the Milltek maybe puts it 120% (tad louder). My R8 is like 250% . All motor (no turbos) helps.

Agreed! I have a friend who did a TT to his Huracan. Sounds great but it ruins that N/A sound IMO. It's a dying breed and something that unfortunately cannot be duplicated anymore.

    Anyways, here's both of them:

Milltek non-resonated RS7 Performance and my (pregnant at the time) wife enjoying it. My neighbors don't care as you will see.

Stock downpipes on RS7. It's just the Milltek non-resonated. Warranty still intact on vehicle is why I haven't DS1'ed the car yet.

The R8 those are the stock 20" wheels with spacers.

Any chance we can get a video onboard while crushing at regular speed and not accelerating?

I'm on the fence on a non-resonated valvetronic milltek exhaust myself.

In between the hits you can hear it just cruising along down the road. Last pull windows are down...and yes it has DS1 now lol.

Oh that is not bad at all. Why are people complaining about drone?! I'm sold on it now. just literally placed an order 5 minutes ago. I have a silverado 6.2 with a borla atak exhaust and THAT is obnoxiously loud when going up to speed, but chill when it's cruising; at least inside the cabin haha

How's the DS1 stage 1 tune in comparison to the APR stage 1? Not sure if you have experience with the APR tune or not, just an off topic question.

Yeah man it's quiet to me and what the car should have sounded like from the factory (with the Miltek). No experience with APR but honestly you're splitting hairs between all the basic ECU flashes. They can only add so much . They all add a good amount over stock and DS1 is the most flexible and most active one at the moment. Highly recommend it.

Never it's not keeping up with a Plaid it's not even a consideration for me lol.

Having owned the Plaid almost 5 months now it's still freaking awesome. Still love my slower ICE cars too. Plaid ain't a sports car so my R8 takes it and my wife loves RS7 so happy wife happy life. Still love the V8 snarl but it's analog old-school charm but technically inferior to the Plaid in everything but braking and build quality...although I do have carbon ceramics inbound for the Plaid.
