Pros: sheer stopping power. Look great.
Cons: noisy - squealing and grinding noise. Hard to pinpoint root cause. Outrageous price to replace w. stock/factory.

I'd love to keep them. If someone can tell me how to stop the constant squealing/grinding noises I'm all ears.

Same problem here, even when not braking it squeals (driver side front wheel). Dealer says it's normal on carbon ceramic brakes, that if I want to get rid of the squeal I can replace pads for new ones, but sooner or later squeal will return. So I'm trying to get used to.

Guess I shouldn't be complaining about the brake squeal from the CCBs since mine only do it under braking. Seem to squeal more when driving in dynamic manual but think that is down to not braking as hard since the majority of slowing down is from engine braking. Hotter days tend to be worse as well. Don't really want to track the car with them either, hear 2 sessions is all you typically get.

I'm close to buying new brakes and selling the CCBs since they only have a bit over 9k on them. Voshmods is releasing details on their Brembo solution for front and rear this week. Hopefully a cheaper dual rear kit than the R8 bracket/kits out.

Squeal is annoying to some, but to the trained ear make it sound like a car ready for the track !

I am heavily invested in racing and agree that the occasional brake squeal is fine.

Brake grinding sounds, not so good...

I'm on the same page on this. CCB brakes are a bit touchy but best stoppers I've ever had on a car. I really only notice the squeal under light braking. Some other drivers may hear and be irritated but gear heads who look at the brakes know. Do not forsee doing any work to my CCBs for a very long time. Driving where I live allows me to spend more time on the throttle than on the brakes anyway. ;-)

On an electric car there is a new regenerative braking system. This requires the driver to adapt their driving style to get the best out of the system. I would say it is the same thing with the ceramics. To get the best out of the ceramic brakes requires a driver to change their driving style. It looks like drivers, who continue to drive the same way, (as if they are on steel rotors) are going to encounter problems.

The only thing I have not been able to solve is the grinding. It only happened a couple of times and never stayed long enough (less than an hour) to figure out. The other 4 problems I have encountered I managed to get sorted. For sure I have not had any squeal in the last 3 weeks. Can't remember when I had squeal the last time. I would hazard a guess and say I might get squeal 2,3, or maybe 4 times a year. The habits and routines that I have developed mean that squeal is not an issue.

For me the ceramics are a hidden gem. They are precise and bring on a confidence in braking that is very comforting. I suspect I will hang on to this car for a long time because new models may not be available with ceramics.

^^^ Very solid points Steve! I've definitely had to change my driving style a bit but the the brakes on my previous S3 were pretty good; just different. Huge confidence in my CCBs now. Sometimes worried about planting passenger's noses on dash in sudden stops. Yes, with the belts on. LOL. Love my car and expect to keep it for a very, very long time. Best all around car I've owned.

Well, at least two of us have changed our driving styles and are enjoying the ceramics.

I just put on the neuspeed rotors all around with the 1521 carbo coming from stock steel. They're still breaking in but so far they don't stop as good as stock but we'll see

    Problem solved!

Had my local Audi dealer look into this and they were able to diagnose and correct.

They went thru all four calipers and lubricated the slides/hardware including cleaning up the pads/shims.

No more grinding and still have the cool brake squeal and most importantly, the amazing stopping power. I now plan to keep my CCB's.

    Best of luck to all.

You can also usually fix the squeal by just getting a bit of heat into the brakes. Do some repeated, hard stops at stoplights (with nobody behind you) and it can eliminate the squealing. The regular, gradual stops that we all do in everyday driving are not enough to keep heat in the CCB.

As for replacement (when/if that becomes a thing) - try to look in the aftermarket. You can usually pay 50% of OEM price for an aftermarket set of new CCB.

which, is ironic, given that everyone who tracks their cars ditch them for steel...

After a trip from Frankfurt to Düsseldorf and some "hard braking" above 200km/h in autobahn open areas, squeals disappeared. I tried some hard braking when living in Spain without any success, speed limit is 120km/h so I guess I needed to push the brakes harder.
Hope it could help to anybody.

I think people do that because the replacement cost is outrageous. Its hard for me to imagine that the CCB's aren't a better option on track. I just picked a used set up just for track so I will let you know how they hold up. I know the steel ones would not be enough on a stage2 or 3 car so I'm hoping carbon will be good.

Steels with track pads can still squeal when cold!
