    Changed plugs, now.................

So, I just hit 65K, so I decided to change my plugs since I went stage 2- single pulley ( I.E.). I changed out the OEM for 1 step colder ( NGK- BKR9EIX ).
I gapped them at .027-ish, loaded up with 93 octane and took out. WOW- at first it felt weaker than the night before, and I got some bumps while doing pulls.
Hum, so as I hit WOT, the EPC came on, and it went into limp mode. https://www.audizine.com/forum/image...s/bawling.gifI made it home, pulled on the coded reader, Misfire in cylinder #1. Hum........

    So.......

I.E. says to gap them at .026, so .001 makes that large of a difference ?https://www.audizine.com/forum/image...s/confused.gif

Going 1 step colder would make a coil pack go ?

BKR9EIX might be a bit too cold for single pulley (depends on your pulley ratio of course). Maybe try BKR8EIX gapped to 0.024”-0.026”.

In addition to what was already posted, yes plug gap can make a world of difference.

I know someone who took half a second off their quarter mile just by playing with spark plug gap.

So, this morning I bought a gauge feeler, went back and made sure they were all correct. Some were at .026, others were .029 / 0.30. I gapped them all at .026, changed the #1 coil pack and it ran perfect. Go figure.

Sounds like it is working fine for you now. Just be careful there was some reports of counterfeit NGK plugs on Amazon.

Has APR or other tuners ever recommended anything other than the stock OEM plugs for stage 2 tunes, whether single or double pulley?

    Good point.
APR states for Stage II dual pulley:
"The software was designed for use with NGK Iridium IX BKR9EIX spark plugs. "

Even their Stage III S6/S7 kit which surely generates a ton of heat only recommends an 8.
"NGK heat range 8 spark plugs gapped to 0.024" ±0.002" or 0.6mm ±0.05mm with a change interval of 10-15,000 mi or 16-24,000 km."

However, according to NGK... "A good rule of thumb is, one heat range colder for every 75–100hp added."

The NGK- BKR9EIX works ok, Car seems to be quick, just, not as quick as before.
So I got a set of BKR8EIX to try. I'll install them in the morning and see which performs better.

Coils and plugs were a pain in the butt on my old 335xi. With only APR stage 1 and 25k on my 18 A6, I’d assume I’ve got many miles left before needing to swap plugs and even think about coils?
