    Q7 Full Model Redesign?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello everyone. My wife is in the market for a new car. We have three kids (11/9/5) and need three rows. We checked out the Q7 and unfortunately it missed a lot of the marks for what we are looking for in a family hauler. Ideally we'd like captain chairs for the 2nd row. Also, the 3rd row was impossible for my two youngest (girls) to get into without help. I was really shocked how difficult it was to get back there vs. every other manufacture in the market.

My research shows the current generation Q7 came out in 2015. I'm hoping the next generation will be out possibly in 2021 or 2022.

Does anyone know when the next, fully redesigned, Q7 is due out?

The Q7 isn’t going to be what you want if you want a real deal 3 row. No amount of redesign is going to change the class of vehicle.

Agreed. The Q7 is Audi's answer to the X5 and GLE - not a true 3 row suv like the new X7 or GLS. There have been rumors and speculation for years that Audi would release a "true" 3-row suv named the Q9...but it's never materialized, unfortunately.

Expanding the Q7 to the size necessary for a full size 3rd row would then create a mid-sized gap in the line up - a problem given the attraction of the size of the current Q7 (based on the large sales volume).

So I wouldn't hold your breath. If you want something with a larger 3rd row, you'll need to look outside Audi...

Third-ed. The third row is really more “conceptual” in nature. No way it’d ever fit a car seat, or any other creature bigger than a chihuahua or a large rabbit. Or one of those Peruvian rabbit-looking groundhog things. Viscacha or whatever.

Land Rover has a decent third row seat.

Thanks for taking the time to provide input.

I should have been more clear.

-The overall size of the Q7 is fine.

-2nd row captain chairs are preferred. However, not required.

-The process to gain access to the 3rd row is aweful in comparison to every luxury suv in its same class (GLE/X5/XC90) that I've comparison shopped.

I'm most interested in learning about the potential date for the new generation to be released. I'm assuming Audi is on a 6/7 year cycle. I expect they will be much more efficient with packaging their interior on the next generation. For example the XC90/X5/GLE have the same wheelbase as the Q7(source Edmunds). While the Q7 is several inches longer than all three of them. However, all three of those cars (GLE/X5/XC90) had simple access to the 3rd row (all of my kids could easily get to the rear by themselves). Also, the XC90 can also be optioned with captain chairs.

So knowing 2015 (if I have my date correct) was the first year of avaliablility (assuming my2016) what is everyone's thoughts on the date for the new generation?

Again thank you for taking the time to reply. Message boards like this one were invaluable back when I was researching custom ordering my M3 a few years ago. I learned about Euro delivery which was awesome!

****While the Q7 is several inches longer than all three of them.

Update: While the Q7's (overall length) is several inches longer than all three of them.

Net: Wheelbase is the same for all four. The Q7's overall length is several inches longer.

Seeing as how the 2020 is a new facelifted model I'd bet they push this version for a few more years.

    4L model
    2005-2010
    2011-2015 (facelift)

    4M
    2016-2019
    2020- Present (facelift)

I agree with all of the above, I bought mine knowing the 3rd row would almost never be used by humans, but needed more luggage room and space for a 70 pound lab in the back. So far the Q7 has done great in that regard.

Especially since the 2020 just got the full touchscreen dash remodel that they're putting in the newest models, they'll milk it for a long time. Compound that with the push towards electric models, and you may be waiting a while.
