    P1388 - Bad throttle body/MAF? Not ECU?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys! I have a buddy with a 1.8 B6 with 165k miles on it. Car doesn't run very good at idle and pretty much dies / basically no power when you try to give it gas. Luckily he picked it up for cheap....

After scanning the car with VCDS we got a few codes - one of which scares us, that being P1388 (see the screenshot below).

I was thinking he might just need a new throttle body or possibly a MAF since it seems the other codes are related to it... Or does he need an entire new ECU?? I just happen to have a spare throttle body from my old B7 engine that I know for a fact works, I just don't want to waste my time if a new throttle body isn't the solution. Any help or opinions would be appreciated!

(P.S. Before somebody says "use the search function", I did. I couldn't find any clear answers on this with the B6 platform.)IMG_20200723_170354.jpeg

Nobody? I know this isn't a common issue but could really use some guidance here.

The first two codes indicate a problem with your position sensor on the gas pedal. Check the plug on the gas pedal and make sure it isn't corroded or dislodged.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! I'll update this thread on my findings with the sensor on the pedal. I'll also see if I can find the sensor in VCDS and monitor it on my next test drive (G185 I think?)

I would clean the throttle body or performed basic settings on throttle body as see if it will pass basic settings.

If I do need a new ECU I'm not sure how easy it is to swap out, my B7 has the harness riveted to the ecu itself.

Update as well: I think my friend is going to try and flip the car for small small profit, he doesn't wanna deal with it and I don't blame him 😂 I warned him before he bought it too
