034 Flashing Software - Macbook Pro

    Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has had any issues getting the 034 tuning software to load up when running windows 10 via boot camp. I get all the drivers to load but the software won't run.

Now, I could be a total idiot and I'm not sure whether I need to have the OBD11 connected to the car for the software to load but I have disabled the firewalls and all the software is up to date.

    Any help?
    Sasha

Have you tried running parallel instead of boot camp? I've had success with it on my e90 and vagcom on the s4.

Yes for sure ... I have that and have plugged it in where it is recognized by Windows. I just can't get the software to load for some reason. I can't tell if it it's something in the Windows OS or if I need to have their cable and OBD11 device plugged into the car for it to load. Hmmmmmm.

Good idea. I may try that once I've exhausted options via boot camp. I've emailed 034 and hopefully they can help.

    Cheers!

Or … is the software on the actual OBD11 device they shipped that only get's loaded once you plug the device in and the file they sent is just the drivers to ensure connect to the OBD11 device…. hmmmmm

From what I understand there's a bus issue with flashing the ECU via Mac. Vagcom will work fine via VM or Bootcamp, but you won't be able to flash the ECU on a mac.

Your only option is to get a windows pc or tablet.

Weird as I’ve read many a driver having had used boot camp to do this. Man. I haven’t had a windows machine in over a decade!

Cheers. Did you have any issues opening the software before connecting the cable to the obd11 port? I can’t figure out if I’m just supposed to download the drivers and the software is on the obd11 device.

    Thanks

What year MacBook Pro do you have? Any non-retina Pro from 2012 and older is easy to swap out the hard drive. I run a separate SSD for my 15" 2012 MacBook Pro for Windows, and another for Mac OS. Just loosen a couple screws to remove the back cover, and the HDD/SSD becomes accessible.

You can even do this with the AHCI hard drive in 2012 - 2015 retina MacBook Pros... after 2016, since the hard drives are all soldered down, all bets are off.

Mine is a touch bar one which is more recent and having tried both Parallels and Boot Camp and not succeeding I'm starting to think this isn't going to work. I may try VM Ware as well but after that I'm giving up!

I know its inconvenient, but I keep an old PC laptop around just for my car for Vag-Com and 034 flashing. You do not need much for resources, so they are fairly inexpensive if you need to buy a used pc.

    Update here.

I tried Parallels with Windows 10, no dice.

Then I tried a licensed version of VMware Fusion with Windows 10 and BOOM! ... it worked. Flashed the ECU with no issues and she’s alive.

Big thanks for the support on this thread. Hope this experience helps others in future.

MacBook Pro (Touch Bar) + VMware Fusion + Windows 10 + 034 Dynamic Tuning = Stage One fun!
