    SQ5 modified rear bumper options

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys I'm looking to modified the rear bumper of my 2018 SQ5. IMO, the car is perfect but the fake exhaust is the only issue and I really want to get rid of it. After searching on the net I have found very few options of aftermarket rear bumper. Here is the selection so please add more if you have done this mod. I'm looking to respect the original style of the car.

Hadn't seen the Caractere one till now. I've been looking at the MTR design one (looks to be cheaper if you go direct vs XenonzUK) as it flows with the OEM side skirts.

You missed the ABT and Lumma kits:

I think that the MTR and MTM rears look the best as they don't have side skirts on their kits, thus flow well with the stock sides. The others look somewhat odd or won't work without the rest of the kit (Lumma/ABT/Caractere) as they are widebody kits or have design elements that don't match the OEM sides (see the odd double lip on the ABT kit on the white car above).

Thanks mate for the reply! Tbh, the mtm with a quadri exhaust tips in carbon finish might be the best choice for my Navarra Blue with black optics option SQ5, I'mnot a big fan of the RS style tips. I'm looking to find some photos with this exact mods or with black tips.

The way the exhaust is integrated into the bumper, the CF tips, damn it's just so well designed, but those double lips on the corner make it a little tricky to use as a single piece. Not sure it's worth $5k to find out how I really feel about it. lol.

But ugh...so good. Might also solve my HFC noise levels as well as I'd have to switch back to the stock catback to axleback parts.

Nice. I'm leaning towards this one as well.

Can't wait to see pics of the install and with the tips you opted for.

Glad I found this thread, made a deal on a 2018 SQ5 yesterday and totally bummed when I realized the rear exhaust outlets were fake. Look forward to seeing some pics when finished.

    What was Audi thinking ?

I think all of us felt that way initially but many of us have since moved on and no longer mind the "fake" exhaust. It's hard to even call it fake because I don't really think they're trying to emulate the appearance of an exhaust at all.

I thought it would bother me more once I owned the car for a while, but honestly it grew on me more and more. I like it better than if they had just gone the route of the B8/B8.5/B9.5 platforms. The rear looks cleaner and is actually easier to clean than having to deal with tips. Now if Audi made the B9.5 have integrated exhaust tips like the Lumma kit or ABT kit I'd feel 100% different. To me; that's how I think exhaust should look on a modern sporty vehicle, but just some mufflers/tips hanging under a bumper tho...boring, no thought/design to it, over it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

200% agree, they are not fake exhaust tips (e.g. VW and some other manufacturers) where the exhaust exits through a cut out. I thought it would bother me, but it doesn't as I do not have to clean tips and sounds fine. I wish their were a valved exhaust that followed the factory route.

I install the bumper, but sadly the tips don't fit plug and play. Need to find a way to connect the bigger connectionpipe with the oem exaust tips

    Hi!

Guys wanted to jump in and see if anyone had any questions about the MTM Kit in the USA. Always glad to help.

Saw someone mentioned using quads with our kit, I sold a kit to a customer once who said he was going to sort out his quad exhaust for it. Sadly we don't offer the option with the kit, only the ovals.
Also bummer that customer never sent me pictures of his finished install.

Glad you jumped in this thread. Does MTM offer an option to ship a painted to factory color option? I can get a local, reputable shop to do this but I'd rather pay for the convenience of having it arrive at my door and immediately ready to install.

Sadly we cannot. We cannot guarantee a perfect match without the car in person at the body shop, thereby we don't offer this.
I recommend you take it to a body shop, usually they need the car for about 20 mins to read the color of the paint with a scanner. So then they can mix the paint that will be used on the kit. You leave them the kit and a few days later they should reach back out to you to just complete the install.

Note on the rear kits, although we have a connector pipe for the OEM exhaust, it is not always a perfect match. So be prepared to have a muffler or exhaust shop fabricate this for you. We tried to make the kit as universal as possible, so it will work with multiple SQ5 variants and exhausts.

Figured as much but thought I'd ask.

Are you seeing exhaust differences between the 18, 19, and 20 model years? What year does the included connector work with?

Yes we are seeing difference, but its not MY related. Its productions dates related, and it tends to fluctuate.

Have any photos of the differences on the OEM exhaust? I'd like to plan my time and $ appropriately when I do pick this up. There's a ton of 3rd party work required so I want to get all my shit together before spending the $.

Sadly I do not. I would probably play it safe and assume you will need an exhaust shop to fabricate the connection. If you don't have too, well lucky you.

On the 2021 announcement thread Alex from Europrice stated that's it's very unlikely the 2021 bumper would be a 1-to-1 swap for the 18-20 years. The 2021 also have fake tips, the exhaust dumps under the bumper exactly as the 18-20, they just added tips for the look.

True, but you can opt for a sport kit that connects the exhaust to the tips making them truly functional

I came across another option I haven’t seen before for a rear bumper / exhaust tip set up. The price seems great at less then $850. They also offer a front bumper which Isn’t my taste but maybe others would like it?

Or, you know, have local muffler shop make you a set for a hell of a lot less than the $1200 that Audi's charging.

Bumping this thread up to see if anyone has installed any of these options on their B9. I like this OEM-looking option the best, but not sure it's compatible with a tow hitch:

Seems odd that it works with the S-line bumper, but not the SQ bumper. They're the same thing.

Probably has to do with an exhaust difference for the included adapters. probably a different diameter on the 2.0t version? The bumper itself should fit no problem
