    Ross tech hex net mobile

I’m looking to finally get a Ross tech cable so I can do system scans and I would like to log some 3rd gear pulls with the new K04. It looks like Ross Tech has either the VCDS or the VCDS mobile which is a beta program. From reading their website it looks like the biggest difference is 1) the cost and it covers 10 VINs 2) the mobile version can do logs through my iPhone browser. Has anyone used the mobile feature and if so does it work? I like the idea of not having to bring a laptop in the car and the ease of doing a scan/log on my phone.

I have the mobile. It's been in "beta" since I bought it three or so years ago.

Mobile works fine. It's different, but works. Logging and certain other features are cloud based and not actually through the app or website.

You can still use the dongle via hard connection to the laptop, though. So you really have the best of both worlds.

I still haven’t figured how to make it work with the mobile app.they need to be connected to the same wifi in order to work but what happens if you’re not near a wifi connection.
And it doesn’t seem to work from my phones data.

Decided to try this out. Pretty cool, can use my iPhone now to view DTCs and measuring values.

The HEX-NET starts out in access point mode, middle light is orange. So plug it in, give it a moment to spin up, then on the phone search for network HNx-xxxxx. Connect, bring up a browser and go to 192.168.0.1, default password is password. Do an autoscan; it'll talk about lack of ASM data, just close those. Save your log or not and back out of things. Now plug in the USB cable and connect a laptop, start up VCIConfig.exe, Updates, search for updates, download updates. It should grab the ROD files for the modules the VCDS-Mobile had encountered but lacked the data for and install those. Go back in with the phone and pick a module and fault codes and see the DTC text is now complete.

If you press the little button on the HEX-NET briefly, the orange light will go green and the unit will be in infrastructure mode, where it wants to connect to a Wi-Fi network rather than broadcast its own. You can also configure that connection in VCIConfig. Useful at home, but not so much on the road probably.

All in all, I'll always take my laptop and cable on a road trip. But knowing that I can see a lot of the normal stuff on my iPhone with just the HEX-NET unit alone, maybe I'll keep it in the car normally now.

It has its own wifi. Push the red button to activate it then connect to it with your phone. Once connected you'll have to tell your phone to stay connected even though there isn't internet, and keep your data on. The mobile app will the say something to the effect of "connected to xxxxxx"

I wish there was a vfiz for the B8. I miss that. I could see everything right in my dash, and clear CEL's on the go.
