Any good Daytona Grey Pearl touch up paint???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I got a nice scratch on the side of my car and got Daytona Grey Pearl touch up paint from Automotive Touch Up, but it seems really light compared to the actual paint. Definitely lighter than the stock paint, not great. Has anyone gotten Daytona Grey Pearl touch up that matches the color of the car, and is not too light?

I had a local body shop mix me up a pint of paint for some touch up work and it's pretty damn flawless. Wasn't that expensive either, maybe try that?

The dealer has touch up pens, I didn’t think they were over priced.

They touched up a couple little dings before I bought the car (used) and the color was very light too on those little areas. Odd all the touch up paint I have seen in this color is at least a shade too damn light.

I believe pearl is hard to touch-up because it is a process more than just a single paint. Glacier has a similar issue...hard to touch-up.
That looks pretty deep too... might warrant a professional.

I’ve had good luck in the past with Dr. Color Chip on BMW, Honda and Audi. YMMV

I've also used Dr. Color chip and had good results.

    Hello there,

I'm living this nightmare with my Daytona grey as well.
I have Dr. Colorchip and paint match color is excellent. However, the process as they describe to dab, smear, wipe doesn't work for me at all. I watched ton of videos and read dozens of forums and basically I remove all the filling I did at the wipe stage.

    I attached 3 pictures.
The one you see my reflection with a phone, it's before any work.
The one that is somewhat dark is after roughly 10 to 12 layers of Dr. Colorchip (dab, smear, wipe x12). It basically looked the same.
The 3rd that looks like bird poop is AutomotiveTouchUp. Completely off color.

I finally took one of those tiny micro applicator sticks, and wet just a very top of the fibers on the brush. Just enough that they changed color and dabbed it on top of the "bird poop spot". It looks very good but still need to see how it'll hold a polishing stage I'm working on this week (I'm in the process of applying ceramic coating).

Any tips of how you applied it?
I remove all the filling when I "wipe off".

Dr. Colorchip is by no means perfect. It's "good enough" for the most part. Especially on dark cars with light primer underneath or plastic painted areas of white cars with black underneath.
It sounds like maybe you are wiping too hard with the sealer/activator. You go gently...think layer by layer until you remove the smeared paint from the good pain surface then leave it. If you are doing it right it takes a while to get the Dr. Colorchip off of the surrounding area. It will not wipe off quickly if done right.

I fixed it to make it MUCH better... I bought a bottle Duplicolor metallic black touch up paint at a local auto shop, mixed a few drops with the Daytona Grey. Basically I put some grey in a cup, a few drops of black, mixed, and tested a tiny area that was already touched up. Match is MUCH closer, can still see it a little if you look closer, but MUCH better if you do a quick glance. It was very obvious before as you saw in the initial photo, here is one i just took. I didn't clearcoat or polish yet, but MUCH better.

kind of late to help with your problem, but I've used paintscratch for touch up supplies on my Daytona gray pearl. they color was spot on.

I used a fine-line paint pen to do the touch up for a couple rock chips.

I used the pre-packaged color and clear spray cans from paintscratch to color match my reflectors.

    @PSUGOLD and daytona rs7

Both of you are legends. I have a small line of rock chips on my front right bumper/diffuser and this should do the trick. I have Oolong Grey Pearl so kinda in the same boat. Cheers!

    PS: That looks good PSUGOLD.
