Looking at purchasing a Q7 to tow - I would like to have the increased towing capacity

If I purchase a Q7 without the towing package - ad would like to add it myself - what needs to be added

I have seen a couple of places that its hitch - brake package/module and different cooling fans - Is this correct?

If so - is there a place to buy the package?

Adding in an OEM tow package is very expensive, and just adding an aftermarket hitch will be a pain as all the electronics on the car will not know its there. The factory package adds in a bigger intercooler and fan for gassers, and a bigger fan for diesels, all the wiring up to the front for a trailer brake controller, 7 pin plug for the trailer out back as well as all the coding changes to several modules so once you plug in a trailer the car knows it.

Save yourself the headache and buy one with the factory towing package, most have it anyway, also if you tow a lot air suspension is awesome, it will load level once you hook up the trailer.

Thanks for the input - do you have a engine recommendation?

I spent months looking for a TDI with the options I wanted then bought an 2014 S-Line Gas. Everyone says the TDI is the way to go if you are going to be towing regularly, but I have never towed with one myself. I test drove a 2010 TDI with the 6 speed and that low end torque is awesome, I'd imagine it's even better with the 8 speed if you are looking for a facelift model (2011+). Also in 2013 the TDI's got the second gen 3.0 TDI which has more power and better mileage.
