2018 SQ5 Rear Brake Caliper S Branded Cover

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just recently noticed that the 2018 SQ5 has an "S" branded cover over the calipers. 2019+ have a standard red painted caliper.

Does anyone know if this is something one could easily upgrade on a 2019+ or is it a completely different caliper?

You can buy the old revision caliper, but you also can buy the face plate, you would just have to drill into the existing caliper to make it work.

Found the part number for the cover plate but it also appears that 2018 vs 2019+ have different part numbers for the rear calipers.

    Part #8W0-698-221

It didn't bother me until I noticed a 2018 with the caliper covers. Audi cheapened out on 2019+

2018 SQ5 Rear Brake Caliper S Branded Cover

I just bought replacement calipers from someone selling a set. I will report back once I get them installed. You need to buy 2 new calipers, there is a set on eBay for sale from an RS car if anyone is interested. You just need to order the S logo caps. I am hoping there are no brackets required or anything and it’s just plug and play replacement. Also not sure if the same pads fit or not. The ones I bought are also from an RS, seems like Audi got cheap and only puts them on RS models now.

Can you post up ebay links to what you are finding? I've seen a couple calipers around $300/ea used but hard to justify imo.

Are we 100% certain that the newer calipers can't take the S badge covers?

Covers for sure fit, the ones on eBay are $300 but I have a feeling you could offer maybe $150 each and get them for $300 total. Plus the cost of the S caps.

My concern now is if anything is needed to actually mount them. I have a feeling they are plug and play but will find out. Also the set I bought comes with pads but curious if the pads are the same

So long as you are purchasing the proper calipers for the model you have then the calipers will fit with the carriers you have now and use the same pads. When fitting you will obviously need to bleed the brakes so it's not a simple bolt-on job, but with some brake fluid and a helper or self bleeding setup it's not too bad.

Fitting just the cover doesn't work easily with the calipers that don't have the badge plate now. There is a cutout in the caliper that has the badge plate so it seamlessly fits along with the obvious two mounting holes. Swapping over to the proper calipers is really the way to changeover if wanted.

Yeah, I'm probably out on this mod unfortunately. Can't justify $500+ in parts along with my labor time for a silly brake cover aesthetic.

Is however BS that Audi screwed us 2019+ owners like that.

I'll keep my eye on eBay and maybe a deal will pop up.

For anyone else that is interested here is what I have found so far.

Caliper set + covers $270 (pretty beat up though)
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/USED-2018-2...4AAOSwChteKQds

Calipers priced per each with covers $299/ea (great shape)
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/17-18-19-AU...53.m1438.l2649
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/17-18-19-AU...53.m1438.l2649

Caliper set + covers + pads $350 (minimal damage but OCD people would still probably refinish)

2019+ rear calipers are different then 2018. Cant put “s” badge plate on 2019+ calipers.

One person on the S4 thread said they bought the covers, removed the inserts and welded them on to their calipers. I am not skilled enough to do that but seems like an option if your able to do so.

It's likely that JB Weld wouldn't hold up to the high heat. It's not that strong of a bond even in regular temps.

They have a high temp version rated to 2400 degrees.

I'm assuming the dust covers don't need to come off to change pads either.

I feel like the easiest (well second easiest) and best method would be to just drill two holes for the mounting points for the covers. I have no idea how they are attached? Do they just push into place? Or is there screws that hold them in?

My new calipers should be arriving in the next week or so. I will send pics for reference. But it looks like they push in and have 2 circular clips.
