Oil filters

Hey everyone,

just seeing what people are using. I've used Mann filter in all of the German cars I've owned BUT as I need to do oil change was wondering what people think are the best! Thanks in advance

I'm running 2016 A6 3.0

ya same filter they call out for my motor as well. for the Oil that's what I use as well, tried Mobile 1 and seems to use it more. My BMW used a tad more oil than my previous Audi and when I switched from Mobile 1 to Castrol and seemed to use less oil between changes.

Castrol's website says to use 5w-40 9.2 quarts. first oil change for me is 9.2 right? seems my old Audi took about the same

Mann is the factory filter on the 3.0. Factory oil fill used to be Castrol 5W-40 but I think I read that changed. Mobil 1, Motul, Penntosin all seem to be the most common oils that people use.

VW 502 oil spec is the key to follow. Any oil that meets VW 502 spec will be fine.

If you have not changed the oil yet for your first time in the 3.0 then you will want to get an oil extractor to make it easier. The filter is up top as well. If you raise the car to change the oil through the drain plug then you need to get a set of triple square sockets to remove the belly pan. Each time you remove the oil drain plug you have to replace the crush collar on it as well.

Paul, just so there is no confusion with the slightly different oil pan in the A8...your 2016 A6 3.0 uses VW502 / VW504 spec 5w-40 oil (check the sticker under the hood to confirm) should be 7.2 qts or 6.8 L. I'm not sure where 9.2 qts came from even my 4.0T doesn't take that much.
There are some VW502 spec 5w-30 oils, but that particular Castrol Edge may not be one of them. (Castrol SLX Professional OE now Castrol Edge C3 European formula and Castrol Edge A3/B4, but not the A5/B5 version.) Just about all VW504 spec oils are 5w-30. (Castrol Edge LL (gold bottle)) It doesn't bother some if it does not meet spec, it also might make near as no difference whatsoever, but since you are asking I'd assume you'd want to know specifics.
OE oil filter is 06E115562H (That Mann filter should be ok)

thank I've read all the specs and I never use an oil extractor drain plug works for me and know to be careful. I saw the oil qty. on the Castrol website but figured it was wrong.

I mainly was looking at oil filters, surely wix's makes a decent one as well BUT I tend to still with the Mann Filters myself

In that case FWIW the Purolator filters sold at Pep Boys & Advanced Auto used to be outsource, made in Germany, by either Mann, Mahle,or Hegnst. Not sure if they still are. They should be fine too, but usually overpriced compared to online. L29169

Just make sure that the filter will last the oil change interval. Audi recommends a 10K interval oil change, with synthetic oil it will easily go 15,000 miles. Not all filters are listed for a 10K service life, many list the life at 5,000 miles

Mann HU 7035 for the CREC 3.0T. You all should be stocking up right now as Amazon is selling them for $7.47ea at the moment. I bought 10 of them, should be good for the next 50k.

Or optionally go for one of FCP's oil change kits. $65 once and lifetime replacements (Oil and filter!!!!!) Dunno how they do it but they do.

So I just bought oil from FCP Euro, are you saying I can dump my used oil back in the containers and send it back to them, and they will give me a full refund??
Has anyone done this? Sounds too good to be true (other than paying return shipping).

I go only 7k as I don't believe to many filter can filter the way they should for much longer....my 2cents
