Audi S3 *V rotor and pad recommendations

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I will be needing to replace my rotors and pads soon and was wondering if someone can recommend a good replacement set. I'd like something that has the hub painted black and sloted or drilled rotors options. I know Adam's rotors makes them but they are a bit too pricey for me. Are there any alternative lower priced options that people have had good results with?

    Thanks!

There are some good options out there for drilled performance rotors that are lightweight (13-15lbs total reduction from stock). Weight (sprung and unsprung) can have a big impact on launching, braking, mpg, wear, etc. Those go for about $1,000+. ECStuning and Neuspeed have some nice lightweight rotors for the S3. You can also buy replacement rotors and hubs that weigh the same as the stock ones for $300-400. Check out Emmanuele Design or Stoptech for the lower priced options. The hubs on all of these are black so you don't have to worry about rust. You can also clean the rust and paint the stock hubs black to save money.

Thanks for your response. Quick question regarding isntallation on my S3. Do you need to reset anything in the S3's system? I thought I remember hearing something about using a VCDS cable to reset something.

I really like the StopTech stuff (performance line made by Centric).Their sport pads, slotted rotors and stainless lines were a dramatic improvement over the stock setup. And yes, the hubs are black.

I went by the other forum member. R1 Concepts and Z23 pads. No complaints at all.

Can someone please comment on my earlier question? Do you need to reset anything in the S3's compuer system? I thought I remember hearing something about using a VCDS cable to reset something.

You def need something like vcds, obd11, or maybe carista to reset/release the e-brake for the back.

Besides the e-brake you also need a similar devise to properly bleed the brakes.

Thanks, I will not need to bleed the brakes as I am not changing the calipers. Does anyone have a video or a PDF that details the brake change? Also, anyone have instruction on how to perform the ebrake release in VCDS?

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...#Basic_Setting

In OBD11, the same is done with Brakes>Basic settings>Start line change mode or something like that. End line change mode when you are done.

Thanks. Question, would compressing the caliper and pads with a clamp manually do the same thing as the codes you posted or is this mandatory?

Front you compress like any other car with a clamp. Rear you have to retract the EPB and then compress. There is a slider and a screw mechanism inside the rear caliper piston.

When what the last time it was flushed? Should be done annually, and seems silly to service the brakes and NOT flush the fluid.

Ok i just purchased the Power Stop K7253 - Z23 Evolution Sport Brake Upgrade Kit and Dupli-Color BCP102 High Performance Brake Caliper Paint to paint the rotor hubs black.

Here is the interesting thing. Apparently depending on where you go to order the K7253 kit, the website will tell you this kit is not for an Audi S3. It's for a 2015 Golf VW. If you goto Power stops website, it lists the K7253 for Audi S3. https://www.powerstop.com/product/po...&mk=AUDI&mo=S3

I called Powerstop and the rep told me to use K7543, i said on your website it says use K7253. Also, the K7543 is $100 more expensive.. The rep said she will talk to techsupportt and call me back. She called me back and said that they are discontinuing the K7543 and to use the K7253. I asked why, she said the K7543 is more expensive because it includes Audi brake sensors in the kit and they've decided not to sell and supply a kit with sensors.

I ordered the K7253 as I found it on-sale for $375 but wanted to hear if anyone can confirm that the K7253 is what they've used. I'm concern that I may need these sensors. I am going to spray paint the hubs in advance before installing and I would be very upset if I painted the hubs and install, and it doesn't work because the sensors are required. Can someone please shed some light on this? Are these sensors mandatory or do you use recycle the original ones?

I bought z23 pads for my A3 also, just the pads. Mine did not come with the pad wear sensor even though IDPart description says it should’ve. So, I’m a bit annoyed by that. I’m replacing my pads early, so the OE sensor was not touch and in good shape. I was able to carefully take it off the OE pad and put it on z23 pad.

By the way the wear sensor looks to be a plain wire that would get cut once the pad is low and trip the warning.

So what happends if you cant salvage the sensor from the old pads? Will it throw off a fault code? Do i need to cancel the order and get the other kit?

Yes, i think you’ll get a warning on the dash. I don’t know exactly what that looks like on our cars. I’m sure there is a fault code also.

If you can’t save the sensor, you can buy a new one. Or... I’d just cut the wire, close the open circuit, tape it up, and zip tie to something to keep it out of the way and be done with it. I don’t need my car to tell me when my pads are low.

    Looking up part,

It looks like there are only front sensors? is that the case?

You can pull it off. Just use a small pick to loosen the metal clip and carefully pull it off the pad. If the wire that runs across it is not damaged, you are good to go.

By the way, the ECS bypass that they sell, basically closes the circuit to avoid having sensor plugged into the pad to remove the warning. Electric tape works too.

And to answer your other question, on my car there is only one sensor. It’s passenger side front pad.
