Why does a manual Audi A4 B9 (2017+) have a $7k-$10k premium, and is it worth it?

Ok, so I understand why it has a premium - there were only ~1800 manual B9s sold in the US until Audi pulled all manuals from the market. But does this really justify the crazy premium dealers are asking for?

I'm looking at a manual 2017 A4 with ~20k miles, and they are priced at, or above $30k. An equivalent (maybe even one w/ CPO) with an automatic is priced at around $22k.

Does this make sense? Or is it complete waste of money?

Only you can answer that question. I'm not up on the B9's but don't the manuals come with sport plus?

Sport plus is an option only on the manual cars.

It only makes sense if you really are a die hard manual guy to pay the premium

Keep in mind the b9 is not an automatic but a dsg(a dual clutch computer controlled manual transmission, so no torque converter, but no clutch pedal either) so it makes the choose of going manual even more hard to justify.

I enjoy mine and am glad I didnt cave for the dsg

The manual tax isnt as high on cars not on the east or west coast, but can be more of a gamble on buying an out of state car

I should mention one drawback of the manual car(same with the allroads, and new a6s)
is that it does not have the "traditional quattro"
ie full time awd with a torsen center diff(newer models with a slight rear bias 40:60 split)
the manual car has audis new quattro with ultra technology. the trans and rear diff have a clutch pack, and can disengage the rear when cruising or in low demand situations.(making it somewhat similar to the haldex system used on the a3s,vws)

that being said it does yield slightly better fuel economy more noticibly on the highway. and between our b8 a4, and my b9 , I havnt been able to notice a difference between the awd systems so far and it did good in the snow as well.

As a manual enthusiast, the DSG is incredible. If you really crave the control, you can still shift, but I rarely find it necessary to do so (unless I'm really driving like a dick)

I did not know this. Probably not noticeable in 90% of scenarios

why? Because its rare. Is it worth it, only you can tell. Manual B9 is the sort of car you will buy if you want it. No one will try sell you to it or negotiate the price. Take it or leave it, its up to you. But if you are asking this sort of questions, maybe the S-Tronic ones may suit you better. Its faster and easier to get all the performance from it too. Maybe you can even buy a S4 for that price.

I guess I am lucky to have bought my 18 new. It was not easy to find, it was tricked from two states away. At the time I got a very aggressive discount because no one wanted them!
