    B9.5 MMi Hack

I recently purchased a 2020 S5 without the navigation package. Is there any way this can be hacked via OBD or SD card? I’ve already contacted Audi connect and they say it’s not possible to add an Audi Connect subscription if the car didn’t include it as an option.

Negative. It will also be cost prohibitive to add the necessary modules and programming.

Honestly, you would be better off utilizing Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for navigation needs.

Yah just connect your phone. I connect to my iPhone and use Google maps for navigation. Works perfectly.

thanks for the feedback. That’s what ive been doing to get navigation on the MMI but carplay doesn’t display on Virtual Cockpit. Just kind of disappointed that a 60K car doesn’t come with navigation as a standard option. The previous gen virtual cockpit had navagtion as a standard but this one does not and cost an additional $1600 smh.

Wow, I didn't even realise that Navigation was still an option on an S5 in 2020. It can be done, but will cost you more than what the factory was charging you. You probably had a very good reason to buy a car without Navigation in the first place. So depending on how much you saved, you might find that the retrofit still works out cheaper. There are very few options that can be retrofitted cheaper than the factory option. You do have to spend a lot of time working out which ones those are and skipping only those.

Just get an AirPlay over the air dongle and run google maps if you can. 2018 models will no longer have google map support on the built in Nav so that’s the route I’m going with.

In addition, the new audis do not have traffic info even you have a nav unless you pay a monthly subscription which is step back from our previous audi's, truly sucks

Considering the importance your placing on built-in navigation you must have gotten quite the deal on the new car you just purchased. I don't know that I would have pulled the trigger had I been in your shoes. But I'm sure you weighed all this out while you were signing for your vehicle. Congrats on the car.

So if you have a 2018 A5 with Google Maps virtual cockpit - it will be discontinued and unusable? Don't you have to pay a monthly subscription in order to use Google Maps on the virtual cockpit (instrument panel)?

2017 and 2018 models have hardware that will apparently no longer be compatible with new google software that’s coming out at the end of 2020.

I have a Canadian 2018 S5 with the virtual cockpit, and I did not even have the option to activate google maps, subscription or not, I had to unlock it via OBDELEVEN.

That is extremely disappointing. Anyone else think Audi lacks in the tech department? Heard nothing but complaints about the B&O sound system, everyone says their parking assist either doesn't work or pulls the e-brake when it shouldn't and now this whole Google Earth issue. I still don't understand why my 2018 A5 has a cd player and SD card reader in the glovebox (I will never use it).

I love everything else about the car, but my last GM was probably better on tech than my Audi.

I use my SD Card reader in my 2018 Audi S5 Coupe to play movies. (.MP4 or .MKV files)
Its pretty cool to have some movies on tap for when waiting for the kids to finish work.

Actually, I think you might be buy the navigation after the fact. The new MMI system allows for OTA updates and buying features after the fact that you initially didn't get. See if you have "Function on Demand" available in your MMI or ask the dealer.

    https://www.quattrodaily.com/new-aud...-new-features/

Function on Demand will allow customers to actually buy certain functions for the MMI system on the fly. So if you didn’t option something when buying the car new, or if you bought the car used and it didn’t have a certain feature you wanted, you can simply purchase the feature afterward. For instance, if you bought an Audi A4 without the added navigation package but now want it, you can just buy it through the MMI system and it will unlock and download.

Wow. Didn't realize it could play video files. I will have to give it a try.

From what i have found out with playing with this as some movies display and others don`t. Frame width of 700 x Frame height of 300 on the video works perfect every time.

Can you please link to a thread or how-to for this? I also have a Canadian 2018 S5 and would like to enable this. Saw an old thread on AW, but thought that process was outdated.

Yup you can also insert DVD’s in the glove box and watch them the same way. If you want, you can enable while driving via OBDELEVEN or VAGCOM. This has long been an option since the B8 Nav head units and has carried forward.

You can adjust the resolution in the options menu but some higher resolutions (especially on the SD card) will not play video but only audio. DVDs however can downsize appropriately (most that I have found).
