    Pcv valve already updated?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Have a 2012 a4 2.0 and started burning oil. Was going to order a dip stick, oil sensor and a pcv valve. Production date says 03/12.

The valves I saw on ECS show valves all black for production date up to 3/12. The valve in there now has the clear top on it already which makes me think it was already updated. The valves with white top are listed as “from 3/12” from ecs.

I don’t know what to do now. Gave the car to my wife but she doesn’t know how to add oil lol so she’s not driving it.

    update

was on chat with a site about the valve number.

he said the original part is black top not white. i have white top which means, according to site, its "from production 3/12" not up to.
part number on valve right now is 06H103495AE
no idea what to do from here. so many different revisions

If you have a white cap PCV, you have the current version. Whether the car was built with it or was converted from the black cap is not really a concern at this point.
"started burning oil", and with what qualification? From a correctly full oil level, you go how many miles before the yellow add oil message comes on?
How many miles are on the current PCV? You could try replacing it if the consumption is light.

thanks. ill order the valve anyway as its definitely due for change.
it has 103k miles on it. used to burn about 1 quart every 1500-2k miles. now its too fast. it happened overnight where it burns a quart about 500 miles. came out of nowhere. i also do see smoke out the exhaust. tips covered in soot. had the car since 2016 with 60k miles. also see oil everywhere around the pcv so something is up. no oil under car or anywhere else that i can see without removing everything.

im ordering the dipstick to confirm but also going to do the level sensor and pcv valve as theyre not too expensive. no other issues since ive had the car. it if wasnt for the oil issue it would of been an awesome reliable car.

i was just concerned the previous owner replaced pcv without doing it properly.

forgot to mention i do the oil change with the vacuum pump and every 3-4k miles. going to also try the oil additive from liqui moly

PCV, turbo, rings; not sure what else to consider for burning oil at that rate and making smoke.

Just did the pcv valve. Took me 2 days to get it done because the coil pack boot ripped off lol. Only napa had the long reach picks. Got it in. Test driving and it feels smoother and more responsive. Not sluggish. Also did see oil in breather hoses. One from turbo to pcv and from pcv to intake. The oil pcv was filled with oil.

Gonna test before I do anything else like oil level sensor. Not due for oil change yet so don’t wanna dump it unless I have to.

So far engine is a ton smoother both drive and idle. Engine is quieter on normal driving vs before. Crossing fingers

    Yep its the turbo.
did the pcv, coil packs, stp valve cleaner through throttle body, changed oil and test drove.
10 miles in i get check engine light with P0299. cleared the code and didnt come back. not sure if i should replace the turbo now or wait a little longer.
it doesnt feel like its going into limp mode. the power kicks on around 3k rpm. i never pushed it beyond 3k since ive had the car unless getting on highway so maybe "flooring" it caused it? damn valve cleaner....

    smoke is gone now tho

What did you end up doing with this? Did you get the new turbo? I've seen used ones online at places like Tom's Foreign Auto Parts for a few hundred bucks but installation probably really sucks... I've been running with a P0299 for the last 30,000 miles probably as a result of the loose wastegate or something but the car is really fine and runs great otherwise. I've heard people say that it's really not worth a new turbo if you have a higher mileage car and you should just keep driving.

Not sure what you ended up doing with your car. Driving with a bad wastegate sucks, car has limited power. I was hearing a rattling noise if revving my engine next to a wall with windows down (waste gate rattle). I was hearing "turbo surge" when in a higher gear pushing the car a bit. I used a clip to help resolve the waste gate rattle but ultimately had to replace the turbo. Sucks because the turbo itself was still good. The install was the worst thing I have ever done on a car and I've done many things prior. not much room to work, tools hard to get into places. You have coolant lines, oil lines, intake/exhaust plumbing. But it wasn't necessarily hard just annoying.
