    Whizzing whine after timing belt replacement

    When i rev the engine there’s a whizzing whine like sound when i rev the engine, nothing at idle. Video attached,

    I know it doesn't sound normal and didn't happen before. I can't find a sound clip on youtube with someone revving their car from engine bay. It has to be belt related and I wanna rule out the accessory belt cause that didn't change. Could it be the timing belt has less or more tension on it? Could it be not tracking straight and rubbing against an edge of a pulley? Help appreciated, thanks. It is a timing belt out a junk yard, but this was in pretty good condition, it's a gates 306, I think

    I m no expert but when I did my wife's new beetle'timing belt I had it on too tight and it made the same noise. I loosened up the tension a hair and it went away. If you used a manual tensioner loosen her up a bit and see what happens. I think the newer hydraulic ones supposed to automatically adjust to the right tension once you pull the pin. I m unsure I haven't done it on a longitudinal 1.8t yet.

    I am reusing a belt tensioner, maybe i should actually buy new, but i tried to make the distance between the tensioner piston and idler pulley 7-10mms but the pointed arrow retaining nut was facing all the way horizontal to the right. Ill loosen it a bit, but its gonna increase the gap i between the piston to about 10+ mms

    Always a good idea to replace the tensioner when doing a timing belt on anything, in my experience. I've had them fail soon after buttoning everything up. It's a PITA to get back to on most rigs. Not worth the headache and time to go back to replace it.

    No one should still be using the old style hydraulic tensioner. Use the Litens. Much better Here are all the part numbers needed: Clicky click®

    timing belt drive sound is a bit lower but that seems like an excessive gap to me in the tensioner, maybe i should just buy a new kit just to be safe

    Your video sounds a little like a rough bearing to me. I would recommend replacing the tensioner pulley with a Litens. You can reuse the hydraulic part of the tensioner by simply replacing the roller with a new one. You can remove the hydraulic piston or just leave it in place since it will no longer be utilized. Also replace the belt and while everything is off check the water pump bearings. Part numbers for everything are included in the link provided above.

    I'm in canada so it's harder to find a supplier, but do you think this is good, it uses the mechanical style tentioner, but the belt is not a good brand. Check it out when you have time : https://www.autopartsway.ca/partlist.../pagenum1/tabs

    That looks perfect. Much better than the old style hydraulic type tensioner.
