    CMP Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28) Incorrect Correlation

    Hello all,

    a6 PP 2013
    2 L TFSI

    I used to get this code intermittently. today when I went to a place and after my stop, I was having a hard time starting the car. The car did not start right away, but it did after 5/6 cranks (a little longer than usual).

    Checked the code and found P0016. But if I clear the code (with ACC on mode) and then the car starts right away like normal and then code come back. What I notice there are no other codes but feels less power in the motor and little noisier.

    P0016 00 [175] - Incorrect Correlation

    Also checked camshaft phase adaptation found wired degrees, people are talking 5 degrees is bad but I got -26.94. It has 120,000 miles, always runs great. I swapped the Cam position sensor but no luck. Just ordered a crankshaft position sensor.

    I would suggest to stop driving the car until you get it sorted out before you have costly damage happened.
    How many miles on the oil and what filter brand is being used ?

    Get chain done ASAP!!! Or you will need new head/valves and chain!
    2012 S4,6MT. Steering wheel/4 rims & tires/seatbelts/windshield wipers/41 psi in front tires/40 psi in back tires/CD player/AC/sunroof/oil level=full/coolant=full/no CEL/glovebox/no car payments/dusty brakes/lowbeam/high beam/turn signals/small nick in the bumper from a stone about 1/16" in dia. about 4 " below the headlight/gas in tank/clutch-brake-gas pedals.

    Hard starting could mean a problem with the crank sensor or you actually have a timing problem. You can get an aftermarket crank sensor fairly cheap and if that does not clear the problem then all roads lead to timing chains at that point. If you are getting the 16 code and still starts fairly easily then it’s time to start looking for a shop to do the work unless you plan to do the work yourself. If you are getting the 16 code AND hard to start then it’s time to get the work done now.

    Codes and still starts and runs good is a sign that you have a problem forming. Codes and hard to start means it’s time to get the work done now.

    Hi,

    I fixed the problem myself. After ruling out any solenoids or wiring. I opened up the holes where the camshaft locking tool should go when you do a timing job. You need to remove some wiring on top of the camshaftcover There I could see that the camshafts IN and EX didn't line up. It turned out that a small plastic piece of the chain guide between the intake en exhaust camshaft broke off. This resulted in the intake camshaft being off by 1 tooth. I managed to do the repair with the engine still in the car. And just removing the upper timing chain cover on the driver side. It was quite a !@#$% to do because space is so limited but I managed it and the car was running fine after this repair. You need special tools to do this job. The plastic part is self only cost 10 dollar. After I fixed this problem my turbo's died :). But fixed this also for around 800 dollar. And now the car is drive perfect.
