Abnormal amount of oil coming from throttle body hose... replace or upgrade?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

In the last couple months or so I've noticed quite a bit of oil buildup coming from where the N̶7̶5̶ SMIC meets the throttle body hose, it's sending oil all over the frame all the way down to the sway bar bracket... Figured that's probably not a good thing :( This issue has gone for probably about 6 months or so but hasn't been as bad until now, I know it's normal to have a bit of oil in your charge pipes but AFAIK it's not supposed to get your engine bay all dirty lol.

I think it's mainly to do with my piping "peeling" where the clamps hold down the pipes (I'll post a pic soon for those who don't understand) but after years of having oil in my charge pipes my tubing has become really squishy and totally saturated with oil. Figured it's probably time to get around to fixing it even though I know it isn't a serious issue (I don't think I have boost leaks).

Anyways, I found a pipe kit from 034Motorsport for the stock SMIC's for ~$250, could I get some opinions on just biting the bullet and going with a ~$500ish FMIC kit? (thinking CXracing) I feel like if I'm going to spend that kind of money on pipes I might as well upgrade. Car is also going Stage 1 as soon as JHM emails me back :)

Wouldn't it make sense if there is oil on the outside you would have an intake leak?
Anyway mine was caked when I pulled my engine.
Cleaned it tightened clamps moved on.

If you oil is being consumed check valve cover for cracks

Replaced PCV and valve cover about a year and a half ago, when I swapped engines 3 months ago I checked the valve cover and it isn't cracked. Turbo inlet tube was replaced 6 months ago (surprisingly reduced my oil consumption a lot) and turbo was also replaced about 2 years ago. Oil is under halfway on the dipstick and I've been on the same oil for 2500 miles. Think it's safe to say I can rule these out. The oil is a thin thin layer on the driver-side of my engine bay, I don't think it's a lot but it's spread out and it annoys me.

Not really sure what you mean here, are you talking about the intake manifold or the intake to the turbo? How would that cause oil being sent through the charge pipes?

Also my mistake! NOT the N75 forgot it's under the turbo lol. It's leaking from the opposite end where the throttle body hose meets the driver-side SMIC.

Driver's side, looking up, it's coming from above, hard to get a better angle on the ground:

this hardly gives any clues. Try to get under the car and get more pictures. it could be anything from valve cover gaskets, oil cooler, Oil dipstick, power steering lines etc etc

I'd still say clean it up and watch it..make sure oil isnt spraying from somewhere else. There are two.oil.lines in front of the engine Mount towards the front of the car that were spraying on mine. Oil lines were loose.

I cleaned it earlier today so I'll double check the lines when I can, doing my front struts later this week so I'll see if I can get a better look at it.

Can anyone explain how a turbo inlet tube can reduce oil consumption?

It's part of the PCV system and the one on my car has a check valve in it, some model years don't have a check valve. The one I had was bad since I was able to blow air through it either direction. As far as oil consumption goes idk. Thought it was worth mentioning I guess.

Update: It is 100% without question coming from my throttle body hose. Drove 60 miles since cleaning and checked it out a few mins ago. It was BONE DRY just last night. Oil/Power Steering lines next to this area is also dry.

So I'll ask again, upgrade to a FMIC or just buy 034's charge pipe kit?

I bought the 034 hoses when they were on sale, half price last fall. They are very good quality, I can tell ya that much. Rest is your choice.. But some cheap fmic's will actually be less efficient than stock. Not sure about cxracing.0317201354.jpeg0317201354a.jpeg

Very cool! If they were on sale I would jump on them. I always thought a fmic has less restriction since the pipes are a shorter distance from turbo to throttle body?

I don't know how much shorter they are. A quality one will absolutely be more efficient, but not needed for a stage 1 tune. One thing that will help is pulling IC's off and giving a good clean. If your dripping oil, they're completely coated inside. CTS hoses are $180 for the set, and prob just as good. I just went 034 cuz they were $118, so I grabbed them.
