    Windscreen replacement

I had a chunk taken out of my windshield this morning by a landscaper trying to weed whack a pile of rocks next to the road

Has anybody gone through the replacement process on a car that has the Prestige trim sensor suite? Did there need to be any recalibation? I was hoping to just go through the dealer but it sounds like they use a third party.

I did, and the camera on the rearview mirror needed to be recalibrated. I took it to the dealer to replace it with OEM glass, and they sublet it out to a 3rd party. All said and done it was almost 4 grand, including the calibrations, but insurance covered it.

4000...dollars? Holy crap. I've heard 1200-1500 windshield, plus few hundred calibration... I believe there are few threads on the S4 section stating that. 4K is unreal though! Care to share where that was?

Yeah $4K is a ridiculous amount unless the labor rate there is inflated as hell. I had to replace the windshield on my 2018 A5 Prestige and it required calibration of the camera. My insurance works with Safelite and they replaced it with an OEM windshield and performed the camera calibration. Total cost was around $1800. I have heard some people have issues (not being able to calibrate the camer or with audi pre-sense) with non-OEM glass, but its hit or miss depending on which non-OEM glass you use. However, you can be sure that if you go to the dealership with camera/pre-sense issue down the line with non-OEM glass, they will definitely blame the non-OEM glass whether or not its really the culprit. So better to avoid the hassle and get the OEM glass, even if you have to pay for the difference.

Finished the replacement on mine. Through the dealer it was $2370 with OE glass and the required recalibration and alignment. Even that seems high to me, so I agree $4k is absolutely bonkers. Thankfully I had the bad/good luck to have the windshield broken by the one honest landscaping company in Southern California and they picked up the whole bill. *5 hours* of tech time to recalibrate after the new windscreen and nobody but a dealer can do it—so ridiculous that we have to live with that because of how Audi engineered the sensor system.

The landscape company picked up the tab, I would say that is amazing in this day and age, you had some incredible luck.

They really were wonderful about the whole thing. As soon as the windshield broke I had visions of endless small claims litigation but it was seamless.

$4K is outrageous! $2370 is still a lot. I replaced my windshield via Safelite with OEM glass and the recalibration. The invoice amount was $1200.

The dealer is not the only one that can complete the recalibration. Safelite has techs that are trained by Audi. They completed it for me and I have had no issues.
