    Catalytic converter replacement

    Hi all,

My cat on the passanger side seems to have snapped at the manifold end. So odd. Regardless looking to find a replacement, and dont want to get hosed at the dealer and parts. Especially when i was thinking of getting into a newer a6 or s6.

    I have a 2013 Audi A6 3.0t prestige with 95000 miles on it.

Part number on the actual one in the car is 4G0254252D, but havent pulled it out yet to see the engraved part number on it.

When i search on line the part number is 4G0254252KX for right side

And some cats i see seem to have this part number as well 4G0131703. This one is often engraved onto the part, where the others are printed on with some sort of white ink/paint.

Anyone know if these are all interchangable?

Does a cat from a c7 a7 swap and fit in an a6? Even seem to find some that are from a5 and a8s on line with the 4G0131703 part number.

Does left and right side fit one another or not possible?

    Thank you for any help.

    Steve

I thought cats were warranted until 100k or 10years?

One caveat though, if you're modified in any way or TD1 they will most certainly deny any claims.

    Good luck.

Damn...you almost made it under the CA emissions warranty on time (7 years), but you are out based on miles (70k miles). Sucks sorry.
4G0254252KX looks like the right part. (I thought the X denoted re-manufactured part. Perhaps they do not make new any more.) Looks like about $900.
The 4G0131703 may be the p/n for the cat alone without the pipes since it looks like that cannot be bought separate and also why you see it for other models too. Kinda goofy but also kinda makes sense for manufacturing purposes. Same cat for many cars, just different pipe configurations. Also why I don't think cats for other models A5 or A8 would fit.

I'd ask around, maybe in the classified, there might be someone who went catless or aftermarket who wants to sell their OE cat. Also check local wreckers I'm sure with their high value cats are something they hold onto for resale.

There are different parts for left and right so I'd assume they are not interchangeable. Left p/n is 4G0254202MX

    Good luck.

Was it ever 100mi/ 10yrs? or maybe in some alternate universe...

Additionally, some years ago I was looking for a cat for my C5 A6 and a recycler said he couldn't legally sell me a used cat? Well that was dumb, got around that...

<edit> check the original date the vehicle was put into service. Federal emissions laws require carmakers to cover the catalytic converter and PCM/ECM (powertrain or electronic control module) under warranty for eight years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I've asked Salvage yards in the New York tri-state area and have gotten the same response, can't sell me a used cat and resonator, lol

I thought the warranty was 80,000 miles or 8 years

Any DIY on the removal of the Cat? Seems a little tucked away from top and the bottom.

Yeah checked the book again myself. Looks like the cat itself is 8/80k both FED and Cali. i.e fail emissions and it is determined it is because cat is failed then it is covered. (Still missed on miles.)
I think only the diesel got extended to 10year 120k miles.
However, it looks like maybe the pipes to and from the cat are considered separate. (Again, maybe why the 2 part numbers). So if you have a busted pipe, but not cat it may not be covered. Maybe. I'm sure the litigious could argue otherwise and perhaps win that argument, but not sure.

The same thing happened to me on my 2012 A6 C7 about 3 months ago. I was consider purchasing JHM motorsport's high performance downpipe with high flow cat, only reason i hesitated was because of the 02 sensor position, or lack of in the picture. I needed to get the vehicle on the road as soon as possible and JHM was closed on the weekend to purchase or answer questions. I ended up removing the broken catalytic converter myself and taking it to a muffler shop for welding. The OEM weld was just on the inside where it broke off, not sure why they did this aside for cosmetic reasons. For $45 and a 5 minute job, I had the muffler shop weld the inside and outside of the flange for extra measure.

Removing the broken cat was really easy, installing it was a pain in the ass because of the limited space and angle. It took me 10 minute to position the cat in the correct place, 1 minute for the right bolt and 1 hour for the left bolt. Make sure you have a few extension and swivel because your going to need it.

Will cats from the S4s work on the C7s? Search in the S4 classified there’s a person selling his oem cats with 50k miles (though hard to verify actual miles).

Nice! I like that idea. Ill get it up in the air tomorrow, and out to the welding shop.

Appreciate the times on the re install...I have definitely been there before.
